The Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB), the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man announced the award of a £51.8 million contract to Spanish shipyard Astilleros Gondán S.A, for the build of a hybrid powered buoy tender vessel to support its vital safety service to mariners.The tender includes a commitment to place over £2 million of contracts with U.K. suppliers with a requirement for any contract over £25,000 to be advertised in the U.K. As part of the deal Gondán will also create a special fully funded internship program for up to 15 U.K.

U.S. energy firms this week added the most oil and natural gas rigs in a week since April as rising oil prices prompt more drillers to return to the wellpad.The oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output, rose 13 to 601 in the week to Jan. 14, its highest since April 2020, said Baker Hughes in its weekly report. The total count was up 228, or 61%, over this time last year.U.S. oil rigs rose 11 to 492 this week, their highest since April 2020, while gas rigs rose two to 109, their highest since March 2020.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is investing in self-elevating platform vessel operator Seajacks International Limited (Seajacks) to move into offshore business following FPSO, FSRU, Shuttle Tanker, and Subsea Support Vessel. MOL has announced a plan to acquire a 5% share in Seajacks, which owns and operates five Self-Elevating Platform vessels, from Marubeni Corporation. This is a new offshore business for MOL, following FPSO, FSRU, shuttle tanker, and subsea support vessel. It is also the first step to move into the renewable energy business field through involvement in installation of offshore wind power generation systems, which is expanding in Europe and other areas around the world.

Lamprell announces the completion of construction on a further jackup drilling rig, the “Al Hudairiyat”, and its delivery to Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company (“NDC”), within budget and as scheduled. Completion and delivery of the jackup rig was marked at an inauguration ceremony held at Lamprell’s Hamriyah facility in the U.A.E. yesterday. The rig was completed to the highest standards of quality using the latest in drilling system technology from our suppliers and will depart the facility in Q1 en route to its drilling location in Abu Dhabi. The contract for the NDC “Al Hudairiyat” rig was signed in November 2014 and this is the eighth rig in a series of nine being built and delivered by Lamprell to NDC.

Drillers added 12 oil rigs in the week to Dec. 16, bringing the total count to 510, the highest since January, but still below 541 rigs a year ago, energy services firm Baker Hughes Inc said on Friday. U.S. drillers this week added oil rigs for a fourth week in five, according to a closely followed report Friday, in the best month of producers returning to the well pad since August that signaled a near-two year rout in drilling may have ended. Drillers added 11 oil rigs in the week to July 1, the biggest weekly increase since December, bringing the total rig count up to 341, compared with 640 a year ago, energy services firm Baker Hughes Inc said. In the Permian basin in West Texas, the number of rigs rose by four for a third week in a row to a four-month high of 154. In the first half of the year, drillers cut on average eight rigs per week for a total of 195, compared with last year's cuts of 18 rigs per week on average for a total of 963, the biggest decline since at least 1988.
