Cepsa and Global Energy Private Limited (GPGEPL), part of UAE-based global conglomerate GP Global, have announced an exclusive partnership to manufacture and market Cepsa branded marine and power generation lubricants in India.As per the agreement, GP Global will manufacture, package and even import Cepsa branded lubricant products in India.“India is a huge market for port modernization and coastal shipping development. Major initiatives have been taken in this direction by our government. This partnership is our contribution to the governments Make in India vision and the vibrancy of the sector is a clear sign of resurgent interest in its potential.

Teledyne Webb Research's new version of its Autonomous Profiling Explorer (APEX®) makes a record 13,123 ft dive off Hawaii. APEX floats are based on a buoyancy engine and have been commercially available since founder Doug Webb started Webb Research in 1982. APEX floats descend to a programmed depth where they become neutrally buoyant and drift. After some interval, usually five to ten days, the buoyancy engine makes the float positively buoyant and it rises to the surface, where it transmits collected data such as temperature and salinity back to researchers via satellite communications.

EIVA is proud to announce that it has been appointed by Teledyne Gavia as their exclusive representative in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. The Gavia AUV is a self contained survey solution with a low logistics footprint and capable of operations at depths of up to 1000m while carrying out a wide range of missions for military, commercial and scientific applications. The Gavia is a modular AUV featuring plug and play modules which can be user configured in the field by inserting the required module for the task at hand. Sensors can be upgraded as newer become available, or as mission requirements change. Additional capability modules can be added on at a later date.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Centre (SPAWAR), San Diego has placed its initial order for a Gavia AUV for testing in mine countermeasures (MCM) applications, and has an option to procure up to ten additional units under an existing contract awarded to Hafmynd Ltd. The funding is provided through the U.S. Secretary of Defense sponsored Foreign Comparative Testing (FCT) program, whose aim is to support the procurement of select foreign non-developmental equipment in order to save the cost of developing comparable US technology. The GAVIA AUV system includes over-the-horizon deployment capability using the on-board Iridium satellite link, dual-battery module operation for extended range at high cruising speed and built-in obstacle avoidance.

Stolt-Nielsen S.A. appointed Otto H. Fritzner as CEO of Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group (SNTG). Fritzner most recently served as Managing Director, Ship Owning at SNTG. He succeeds James B. Hurlock, who was named Interim CEO of SNTG in July 2003. • SNTG's global operations will be organized into three regions - the Americas, administered from Greenwich, Conn.; Asia-Pacific, administered from Singapore; and Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA), administered from Rotterdam, SNTG's corporate headquarters. • SNTG's Indian Ocean Service and the Europe-to-Asia Pacific Service will be operated out of Rotterdam. The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), the largest independent institution of its kind in the world, recently began developing a new piston corer for retrieving sediments from the ocean floor. Once complete in 2006, the deep-water coring system will be the largest in the U.S. and among the biggest in the world. The corer’s enormous weight — 25,000 pounds — coupled with the environmental demands associated with working in water up to 20,000 ft. deep presented major technical challenges to the system required to lower the corer to the sea floor then recover it, along with its ancient sediment samples.
