Modest Tree to Provide Virtual Reality Training for MAN

MAN Energy Solutions has selected Nova Scotia-based simulation and training software developer, Modest Tree, to develop a virtual reality training solution for the engines onboard the Royal Canadian Navy’s new Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships under construction at Halifax Shipyard.The virtual reality training solution, the first of its kind in the marine sector, will train the men and women of the Royal Canadian Navy to operate and maintain the ship’s engines.Each Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship will be propelled by two MAN Energy Solutions 4.5 megawatt diesel/electric propulsion engines.MAN Energy Solutions is a subcontractor of GE Canada, the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship Integrated Propulsion System Integrator.

Milestone for Canada’s Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships

GE’s Marine Solutions business in Peterborough, Ontario is completing one of the first milestones of the company’s seven-year contract with Irving Shipbuilding Inc.,(ISI) to provide electrical power, propulsion systems, installation and commissioning services for six ice-capable Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) for the Royal Canadian Navy. GE’s power and propulsion systems will position the new vessels amongst the highest performance in their class worldwide. Four diesel generators and engines have been shipped to ISI’s Halifax Shipyard, and GE has begun acceptance testing on the first AOPS propulsion motor, expected to ship in early July. GE suppliers located in Ontario are contributing to the project providing steel, skids, metal and machining.

GE Extends Royal Canadian Navy Contract

GE Canada announced it recently extended a contract with Public Services and Procurement Canada to provide maintenance and logistics support services for a 15th year. Irving Engages Suppliers on AOPS Opportunities

More than 530 potential suppliers from across Canada gathered in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 for Irving Shipbuilding’s AOPS Supplier Development Session. Invitations were sent to the almost 2,000 companies included on Irving Shipbuilding’s online supplier registry with the goal of ensuring potential suppliers were informed of business opportunities within the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) Program, the first set of combat vessels to be built under the federal government’s National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS). Canadian Government ministers attend the shipyard to mark start of work on the design of new Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships (AOCS). Irving Shipbuilding welcomed the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada, and the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence to Halifax Shipyard today to mark the start of the Definition (Design) phase of work for the first set of new naval combat vessels for Canada, the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS).

Irving Progresses AOPS Design, Prepares 2015 Construction

GE To Provide Maintenance And Support For Canadian Navy's Gas Turbine-Based Frigate Fleet

GE Canada has signed a commercial maintenance and logistics support contract with Canada's Public Works Government Services. Under this multi-year contract, GE will provide maintenance and logistical support services for the Canadian Navy's fleet of LM2500 aeroderivative gas turbines used to power Halifax-class patrol frigates. "This is a unique contract because it represents GE's growing trend to provide both military and commercial marine customers with single-point sourcing and comprehensive maintenance solutions," said Pierre Ayotte, Director, Government Programs for GE Canada. The contract will provide the Canadian Navy with a decrease in administrative functions such as procurement, inspection and technical support and material and inventory management associated with the LM2500.
