A taskforce will be set up in order to ensure in partnership with the business community that the introduction of this national degassing ban runs smoothly. Port of Amsterdam is one of the organisations that will be participating in this process. This marks another step in our liveability programme: a clean and safe port region for local residents and businesses. Apart from Port of Amsterdam the Government, port companies, Shell Nederland and the provinces of North Holland, North Brabant, South Holland, Utrecht, Overijssel, Gelderland, Flevoland and Zeeland are involved in the task force.

Rotterdam-based law firm AKD said a recent decision of the Dutch courts means that shipyards in The Netherlands may no longer be able to rely on the right to retain a vessel while awaiting payment for work done. As a result of this unexpected decision, shipyards could be forced to completely rethink their strategy on obtaining security, at a time when money remains tight in the shipping industry. The dispute before the Gelderland Court involved two tankers under construction at the Markerink yard in the Netherlands. Upon completion of building, it was the intention of Rijndec Quality Control to transfer ownership of the vessels to two separate affiliated companies, Rijndec Trading and Rijndec Shipping.

Landmark machine goes to long-time customer North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven GmbH & Co Würzburg, Germany, 11 July, 2014 – A ceremony today marked the departure of the 1,000th diesel-electric straddle carrier from the Terex Port Solutions (TPS) facility in Würzburg. The celebration was attended by the straddle carrier’s new owner as well as the Terex team members who built the machine. The landmark machine is going to long-time customer North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven GmbH & Co (NTB) as part of an order comprising a total of more than 30 Terex® N SC 644 E straddle carriers. The machines feature a lifting capacity of up to 60 t under spreader and can stack 9'6" high-cube containers 1-over-3.

Last year the Antwerp Port Authority carried out a strategic hinterland analysis with a view to improving the port’s intermodal presence, which is currently sub-optimum. A call for project proposals was issued to the extended port community, with external parties being able to propose new or improved rail and/or barge connections for better access to the network of inland terminals in South-East Netherlands. In this way the Port Authority seeks to further improve the port’s access to its core hinterland. From the proposals submitted, two projects were selected: Danser Group in collaboration with BCTN, and Oosterhout Container Terminal in collaboration with its partners Brabant Intermodal, Markiezaat Container Terminal and Pro-log. Both projects started mid May 2014.

Royal Boskalis Westminster has been awarded a contract by the Vallei en Veluwe district water board for the construction of the Veessen-Wapenveld high-water channel in the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands. The project is one of the more than 30 measures that make up the Dutch national Room for the River program, which is aimed at providing better flood protection for areas close to the country's rivers. The work, which will be executed in conjunction with Van Hattum en Blankevoort in the IJsselweide construction consortium, is scheduled to start after the summer.

Baltica Line has risen the frequency of its Saint Petersburg service . By deploying a third vessel it is possible to offer a sailing from Rotterdam every five days instead of 10. Mr. Peter van Dijk will temporarily replace Mr. Hans Simons as Alderman for the Port and Economic Affairs. The latter has been seriously ill for some time. So far Van Dijk was leader of the social democrat party in the municipal council. Morcon intends to take over Uniport container terminal. The latter is not considered part of the core business of its present owner Kühne & Nagel anymore. Morcon already owns a distribution terminal in Moerdijk and three empty depots and a container terminal in Rotterdam. Last year this terminal handled 115,000 containers. Uniport expects to handle 200,000 containers in 2000.
