Bearing Names Daly Chief Operating Officer

Daly Joins Sea Machines as COO

Boston-based smart ship technology company Sea Machines Robotics has hired Jim Daly as Chief Operating Officer. Daly was previously Chief Operating Officer and an early member of the leadership team at Rethink Robotics, where he scaled operations from technology concept through first and second-generation products. He most recently led the Sawyer robot product development project from conception through design, launch and global customer deployment. He held earlier senior leadership roles at startups Zeemote, Tea Forte and Handspring, and as a Division Manager at Solectron Corporation. Daly earned a BS from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Santa Clara University. He serves on the Advisory Board for Robotics Engineering at WPI. Michael G.

PPG Debuts New Coatings for Steel, Metal Applications

PPG has introduced PSX 800 and PSX 805 coatings for steel and metal surfaces, two next-generation products formulated with greater flexibility and hiding performance than competing polysiloxane coatings. According to PPG, the two new products feature improved flexibility, which enables them to withstand the cracking under stress commonly associated with difficult steel, tank exterior and building exterior applications. PSX 805 coating adds a durable satin-sheen finish that masks imperfections on metal surfaces.

Reimelt Named Head of GE Power Conversion

Stephan Reimelt has been appointed as president and CEO of GE’s Power Conversion business, succeeding Joe Mastrangelo who becomes president and CEO of Power Generation Products for GE Power & Water, GE Energy Management president and CEO Mark Begor announced today. Power Conversion is at the heart of generating cleaner and more efficient power for multiple industries. Ge said it is a growing business, operating in 160 locations worldwide, with more than 7,000 employees. Under Mastrangelo’s leadership the backlog grew more than 70 percent in four years to reach $3.5 billion, being a crucial cornerstone for what will become a $13 billion Energy Management business when combined with Alstom Grid Solutions.

Regal Beloit Finalize Cemp Acquisition

US-based manufacturer of electric motors, mechanical and electrical motion controls and power generation products, Regal Beloit, has closed on the acquisition of Cemp, s.r.l., a European manufacturer of hazardous duty motors primarily for oil and gas and marine applications. Regal inform that for 2014 and 2015, Cemp is anticipated to be accretive to earnings per share by $0.03 to $0.05 and $0.06 to $0.08, respectively. Regal's fourth quarter 2013 earnings guidance provided in an earlier earnings release did not include the anticipated results of this acquisition.

New Italo-Russian Shipbuilding Research Alliance

Fincantieri and the Krylov State Research Centre of Russia have signed a framework agreement with the aim of jointly developing new projects for technological innovation within the industry. The agreement, with an initial five-year term, stipulates that a series of initiatives will be undertaken in the partners' respective areas of operation, including joint research and development activities, the realization of new generation products and the provision of services.
