The work packs that Senesco Marine’s tradesmen are working from provide instructions—including checks and balances and dimensions—for each step of the process. “The person cutting the angles to go on panels has a cut sheet with instructions on how to cut every angle,” explains Joe Bush, VP Operations at Senseco Marine in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

ShipConstructor Software Inc. has signed an agreement with the trend-setting marine production design company, Genoa Design International Ltd., establishing Genoa as its Quality Assurance Partner for ShipConstructor’s CAD/CAM application. Genoa will help ShipConstructor test new versions of its software and then be the first to adopt it for use on actual projects. This agreement is an example of ShipConstructor’s commitment to go beyond industry standards to enhance the stability and performance of the product prior to general release.

Genoa Design International Ltd. has won a contract to provide production design and lofting for two196.8 ft Offshore Support Vessels for the Iraqi Navy. The ships, which will play a central role in rebuilding Iraq’s maritime security capability, will support and defend the country’s offshore oil terminals. Two U.S. based companies are leading the project: RiverHawk Fast Sea Frames in Florida, as primary contractor and Gulf Island Marine Fabricators, L.L.C. in Louisiana, as construction sub-contractor. The project falls under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program, with Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., as contracting entity for the Iraqi Government. Shipyards and marine and offshore fabrication facilities across North America are being offered a new way to fill their design and drafting requirements. Genoa Design International Ltd. has launched a unique web-based system that facilitates the delivery of detail design and drafting services through the Internet. From its base in Newfoundland, Canada, Genoa Design manages projects through a combination of traditional and on-line technologies. Detail design, drafting and 3-D modeling work is done by in-house designers and engineering technologists using industry-standard computer applications. Project management is handled through the Design Information Control System, Genoa's copyrighted Internet software.

Albacore Research Ltd. (ARL) announced the introduction of ShipConstructor into the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Systems Design three-year diploma programs at the Fisheries & Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MI) in St. John’s, Canada. ShipConstructor is the easy-to-use, AutoCAD-based 3D product-modeling software for the design and fabrication of complete ships and offshore structures. Akin to the University of New Orleans’ implementation of ShipConstructor for an industry-focused approach to education, even more students will now have a working knowledge of ShipConstructor upon graduation, a significant advantage when entering the job market.
