LCS 1 Leaves Marinette

The trip from Marinette to will be the first leg in the ship’s transit to , where the ship will undergo fleet testing and evaluation. Last month, the Navy officially accepted delivery of Freedom from the Lockheed Martin/Marinette Marine/Gibbs and Cox team. Prior to delivery, the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) conducted Acceptance Trials aboard LCS 1 Aug. 17-21. INSURV recommended that the Chief of Naval Operations authorize delivery of the ship. Freedom-class ships will help the U.S. Navy defeat growing littoral, or close-to-shore, threats including mine warfare, anti-submarine warfare and surface warfare. Littoral combat ships are fast, easy to maneuver, and are equipped with interchangeable mission modules that allow commanders to meet changing warfare needs.

What is your background in the industry? After college (Bryant University, 1972, BS Management) I went into the U.S. Peace Corps (Ecuador, 1972 – 1975) for about three years. I left the government and entered the contractor community in 1979. I was with Syscon Corporation from 1981 through late in 1999.

Gibbs & Cox Celebrate 80 Years

Fincantieri, Gibbs & Cox Launch R&D Initiative

Fincantieri Marine Group LLC, the U.S. subsidiary of Italy’s shipbuilding giant FINCANTIERI S.p.A., and Gibbs & Cox, Inc., the independent naval engineering and design firm in North America, announced a joint strategic research and development initiative in the ship and vessel design arena. Ship Concept Study Delivered to Navy

Gibbs & Cox, Inc. have delivered their Focused Mission High Speed (FMHS) Ship Concept Study to the United States Navy. The FMHS concept design is the result of a 90-day contract awarded to the Gibbs & Cox, Inc. FMHS Team by the U.S. Navy on November 8, 2002. The results of the study show that the Gibbs & Cox, Inc. Navy Awards Ship Concepts Study to Gibbs & Cox

Gibbs & Cox has been awarded a contract for the U.S. Navy’s Ship Design Concepts Study. The purpose of the study is to assist the Navy in gaining greater insight into industry capabilities to design and build new, stealthy, high speed “Focused Mission Ships” that are designed to optimize warfighting in the Littoral Battlespace. Navy Accepts Delivery of Future USS Freedom

Littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1) returns to its homeport in Marinette, Wis., after completing acceptance trials in Lake Michigan. Cmdr. Marine/Gibbs and Cox team in Marinette, Wis., Sept. 18. Since Builder's and Acceptance Trials this summer, the Navy and the Lockheed Martin team have been working to prepare the ship for delivery, sail away and commissioning. Milwaukee, the location of the ship's Nov. 8 commissioning. Upon commissioning, the ship will sail out of the Great Lakes and down the East Coast for Norfolk, Va., making a number of port calls along the way. Cakewalk, Largest Yacht Ever Built in the U.S.

On August 8, Derecktor Shipyards launched the 281-ft motor yacht Cakewalk, the largest yacht (by volume) ever built in the U.S. The six deck, 2,998 gross ton vessel floated off Derecktor’s new 4000 ton dry-dock into the waters of Bridgeport harbor, after several years and many thousands of skilled labor hours. Cakewalk was designed by Tim Heywood Designs with Naval Architecture by Azure Naval Architecture. Interior design was by Dalton Designs, Inc. Literally dozens of subcontractors from engineering firms to security specialists participated in the project.

Navy Accepts Delivery of Future USS Freedom

Supervisor of officially accepted delivery of Freedom (LCS 1) on behalf of the Navy from the Lockheed Martin/Marinette Marine/Gibbs and Cox team in , Sept. 18. "This is a truly exciting day for the Navy. Today marks a critical milestone in fulfilling the need and realizing the vision we began just a few years ago," said Capt. James Murdoch, the LCS program manager. Since builder's and acceptance trials this summer, the Navy and the Lockheed Martin team have been working to prepare the ship for delivery, sail away and commissioning. With acceptance by the Navy, the LCS crew will move aboard and prepare the ship to depart Marinette Marine for , the location of the ship's commissioning.

Keenan Named VP at Gibbs & Cox

LCS Program Team Announced

Trumpeting the strength of combining leaders in systems engineering, mid-market shipbuilding and naval architecture, officials from Lockheed Martin, Gibbs & Cox, Bollinger Shipyards and Marinette Marine today announced a teaming effort to capture the Navy's Littoral Combat Ship program. The Navy considers LCS its most transformational effort and number one budget priority. "In the process of creating this team, we carefully considered all of the innovative and unique requirements the Navy needs in this new ship," said Fred Moosally, president of Lockheed Martin's Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems. New Controls, Display Systems for CXO300 Outboard

British company Cox Powertrain said it will announce two exclusive new partnerships at this year’s Seawork International and showcase the engine control and display systems that have been chosen for the company’s high powered diesel outboard engine, the CXO300, ahead of its launch next year. Italian controls specialist Xenta Systems has been chosen to supply the engine controls system, which incorporates the joystick, throttle for the CXO300. Murphy by Enovation Controls will supply its new PowerView1200 display screen offering full-featured engine diagnostics on a powerful display screen.
