USNS Cody, 14th EPF, Christened

Austal USA christened its 14th Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF), USNS Cody, during a ceremony at its manufacturing facility. Cody is the first EPF Flight II as well as the first Navy vessel to honor the city of Cody, Wyo. The ceremony for the Navy’s first Flight II EPF was well attended by Navy leaders and elected officials. Vice Admiral Francis Morley, principal military deputy to the assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development, and acquisition; Rear Admiral Bruce Gillingham, surgeon general of the U.S.

US Navy Issues COVID-19 Guidance

The U.S. Navy has issued standardized operational guidance aiming to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through its deploying units after more than 3,100 confirmed cases and 12 deaths have been reported in its ranks and several warships have been sidelined by onboard outbreaks.The guidance, which outlines minimum actions required for units to deploy safely during the coronavirus pandemic, builds on existing restricted movement, isolation and quarantine procedures already in practice as well as lessons learned…

Rebuilt Ferry 'Medway Queen' Re-dedicated, Awaits Refit Tow

The 'Medway Queen Preservation Society' (MQPS) reports progress on the restoration of the historic UK River Medway passenger ferry. The re-dedication ceremony was held in the Albion Shipyard in Bristol, and now the tow to Gillingham in Kent (on the same River Medway) is eagerly awaited. The Society say that it is impossible to overstate the achievement of the Albion Dockyard in building this, the first fully rivetted steel hull in the UK for well over 50 years. They have applied a mix of old and new techniques to rebuild a 1924 sip to its original specification.
