BMA Appoints Hutchinson as MD, CEO

The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) announces the appointment of Captain Dwain E. Hutchinson as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Captain Hutchinson succeeds Commodore Davy F. Cadets Stranded on Hanjin Ship Head Home

The Hanjin Louisiana, one of the containerships caught up in the collapse of the South Korean shipping company Hanjin, has finally docked in Singapore after several weeks of uncertainty at sea. Among those onboard the containership were four Scottish cadets, who disembarked in Singapore on September 28 for flights back home to the U.K., BBC reports. DMCA Showcases Local Maritime Leadership

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) showcased Dubai's global maritime leadership in the presence of a high-level delegation from City of Glasgow College who commended the manner in which the outstanding experiences of the UAE maritime sector has transformed it into an internationally renowned maritime community. This was done during a visit by an academic delegation from the UK College to the DMCA head office in Dubai to promote collaboration in the vital fields of maritime training, research and studies. Amer Ali, Executive Director of the DMCA, accompanied the guests on a tour of Drydocks World which has been instrumental in achieving the ambitious aspiration of developing Dubai into one of the global Top Ten in terms of maritime efficiency, attractiveness, and competitiveness.

Ship Simulator Installed at City of Glasgow College

Transas has completed the installation of Scotland's most advanced integrated ship simulator suite in the City of Glasgow College, the country's largest college. The simulation solution from Transas forms a core part of the new Riverside Campus, Phase One of the City of Glasgow College's super campus development. The installed simulator suite includes a full mission engine room simulator and four simulator labs for studying electronic navigation systems, GMDSS, liquid cargo handling and DP operations.

Seafarers International House Honors Maritime Leaders

Members of the maritime community gathered last evening at the New York Athletic Club to honor three of its leaders: H. Marshall Ainley (President, Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association), Ian T. Blackley (President & CEO, Overseas Ship Management, Inc.) and Raymond J. Burke Jr. (Partner, Burke & Parsons). These individuals were given the 2016 “Outstanding Friend of Seafarers” Award by Seafarers International House, a Lutheran, non-profit agency serving merchant seafarers in Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island, at the organization’s 16th Annual “Setting the Course” Awards Banquet. * Marshall Ainley was elected president of MEBA in January 2014 and is a 1982 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Maritime Academy in Kings Point, NY.

Fergus Campbell recently took the top spot at Imtech Marine USA. He discusses the path forward, particularly the desire to expand the ubiquitous Radio Holland brand. How did you come to a career in the maritime industry? There were a number of factors that led me to this career. Growing up in a small seaport town along the banks of the River Clyde, I remember from a young age being captivated by the variety of ships sailing by and wondering what it would be like to work on them.

Imtech Appoints Campbell to Lead Imtech Marine USA

Imtech Marine has appointed Fergus Campbell as the new Director of Imtech Marine USA. Fergus has worked for the Imtech Martine company previously (Radio Holland USA) from 2000 to 2010 as respectively Branch Manager Florida, National Service Manager and National Sales manager. Before Radio Holland, Fergus worked amongst others at Consilium Marine as sales and service manager and at Caledonian MacBrayne as superintendent. In 2010, he pursued his career as General Manager at C-MAR America Inc. in Houston, a leading global marine offshore and DP services provider. Fergus holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and amongst others studied at the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies. Stena, Sonangol Launch Training Facility in Angola

The Centro De Formação Maritima De Angola (CFMA) was officially launched on August 27 by top management from Sonangol, the Angolan public sector energy company and the Stena Group of Sweden. Transas Simulator for City of Glasgow College

On March 14, Transas Marine and City of Glasgow College signed a contract to supply a simulation complex. Glasgow based Clyde Marine Training, the largest provider of officer training in the UK, reported that they have received over 5,000 applications this year alone, an 11% increase on last year and a 27% increase on 10 years ago.
