Seaspan Launches Second Fisheries Science Vessel

Seaspan Shipyards (Seaspan) hosted an event celebrating the launch of the second Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel (OFSV). In addition to dignitaries from the Government of Canada, the Canadian Coast Guard (Coast Guard), the Government of British Columbia and Seaspan’s supplier network, hundreds of proud employees attended the event with their families.The launch of OFSV 2 is the culmination of years of work by hundreds of dedicated Seaspan employees and supply chain partners from across Canada.

Canada Launches Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel

Seaspan Shipyards (Seaspan) has celebrated the launch of the first large vessel to be designed and built under the Government of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) - OFSV1, the first of three Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels (OFSV). In 2011, the Government of Canada competitively selected Seaspan to be its Non-Combat Shipbuilder as part of the NSS program. Under the NSS, Seaspan will build and deliver non-combat vessels at the company's state-of-the-art facility in North Vancouver for the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) and Royal Canadian Navy. OFSV1 is the first large vessel to be designed, built and launched under the NSS. It represents an important milestone in Seaspan's long-term strategic relationship with the Government of Canada.

FortisBC Starts Expansion of Tilbury LNG Facility

FortisBC – a subsidiary of Fortis Inc. has officially started construction of its $400 million Tilbury LNG Facility expansion project today. The company is adding 1.1 million gigajoules of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to storage and 34,000 gigajoules per day of liquefaction capacity. FortisBC marked the occasion with a ground-breaking ceremony attended by The Honourable Christy Clark, Premier of British Columbia; Delta Mayor Lois Jackson; as well as Scott Hamilton, MLA North Delta; and Vicki Huntington, MLA South Delta. FortisBC Energy Inc. operates the only two LNG facilities in Western Canada. The existing Tilbury LNG Facility opened in 1971 and has safely operated in Delta, B.C. for the last 43 years.

British Colombia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) inform that the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia and Port Metro Vancouver are taking coordinated action to address the work disruption at Port Metro Vancouver, Canada’s Asia-Pacific gateway. Canada Funds Green Port Project in Prince Rupert

The Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, today announced that the Government of Canada will invest $2.5m in the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s (PRPA’s) Fairview Terminal project to provide shore power capacity to container ships through an electric cable management system. Prince Rupert will be the first Canadian port to offer shore power for container ships. “This project will promote greener freight transportation alternatives for Canadians and significantly improve local air quality,” said Minister Day.
