Ammonia-fueled Car Carrier Design Gets DNV Nod

Classification society DNV said it awarded an approval in principle (AIP) certificate to Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) for its ammonia-fueled 7,000 CEU car carrier design.Ammonia is emerging as a promising alternative fuel option for shipping to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.SDARI's new ammonia-fueled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) design is said to be the first from China. It design contains other clean features such as Shore Power, Battery/Hybrid, and NOx Tier III, to minimize emissions.

Offshore Wind to Require Ocean Space the Size of Italy by 2050

By mid-century, offshore wind will require ocean space which is equivalent to the landmass of Italy, and the industry will by then account for half of all the capex in the Blue Economy, according to DNV’s Ocean’s Future to 2050 report."The exponential growth of offshore wind power will be the main driver of a nine-fold increase in demand for ocean space by the middle of the century," DNV said.The growth will be particularly pronounced in regions with long coastlines and presently have low penetration of offshore wind.

Kongsberg Propulsion for Finnlines' RoPax Duo

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime has signed a deal with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai) to deliver a propulsion and maneuvering system for two 230 meters roll-on, roll-off passenger (RoPax) vessels being built for Baltic Sea-focused operator Finnlines. AiP for 25000TEU LNG-Fueled Box Ship Design

China’s Oil and Gas Industry to Focus on Environment Impact

China’s oil and gas industry is set to reinforce efforts to reduce environmental impacts of its projects and operationsin 2019, said a research.According to a new research from DNV GL, six in ten (61%) senior oil and gas professionals in China say their organizations are actively preparing for the transition to a lower carbon energy mix compared to 51% globally. Industry leaders’ focus on decarbonization aligns with the Chinese government’s new ‘Blue Sky’ plan to tackle air pollution by reducing emissions of sulphur and nitrogen oxides and other pollutants by at least 15% from 2015 levels by 2020. Hong Kong Grants Licence to Steamship Mutual
