Eight Japanese Ports Join The Green Award

MOL Promotes Green Award Program

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Green Award Certification for OSVs

Green Award certification program has been extended with a new ship type – Offshore Supply vessels (OSVs). The first ship of this type the ‘’Lingestroom’’ has been successfully certified.The Lingestroom, one of the ships of Van Wijngaarden Marine Services B.V. received a Green Award certificate on 26 February, 2019. The Lingestroom has become the first Offshore Supply ship after Green Award, a certification and incentive program for shipping, had introduced certification for this type of vessels.The certificate was presented by Jan Fransen, executive director of Green Award to congratulate Van Wijngaarden Marine Services B.V. with pioneering Green Award certification for Offshore Supply ships.The certification programme for Offshore Supply ships was launched in the first quarter of 2019.

Thessaloniki Port Joins Green Award

MOL Techno-Trade in Green Initiative

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that its group company MOL Techno-Trade has joined a Green Award Program aimed at promoting high-quality shipping.The program is run by the nonprofit Green Award Foundation, which was established with the objectives of protecting the marine environment and enhancing safe operation.The program aims to improve the quality of vessels and mariners and protect the marine environment by certifying vessels for excellence in safety and low environmental impact. Rotterdam Port Awards Green Award Discount for Vessels

The Port of Rotterdam Authority will widen and facilitate the Green Award discount for sea-going shipping from the start of 2019.The discount will encourage safe and green shipping in the liquid bulk segment. From 2019 onwards, certified chemical tankers and sea-going vessels with a cargo capacity (DWT) of less than 20,000 tons may also make use of the scheme.Also new for 2019 is that the Port Authority is making the port dues process more customer friendly for shipping lines whose vessels call at the Port of Rotterdam. In close collaboration with the market, the billing process will be more complete, quicker and more transparent. The changes to the billing of seaport, buoy and dolphin dues, together with waste charges will be implemented first.

Green Award Partners with NPRC Inland Shipping Cooperative

The Rotterdam-based inland shipping cooperative NPRC is the first logistics service provider in the inland shipping sector to be appointed as ‘incentive provider’ by the Green Award Foundation. In practice, NPRC can be expected to pay a share of the audit costs associated with certification for its members, as well as actively thinking along about the requirements set for the Green Award certification of inland shipping companies. According to the Member of the Provincial Executive of South Holland Rik Janssen, this is a ground-breaking collaboration. The unique partnership was announced during the meeting ‘Goederenvervoer over Water in een Stroomversnelling’ (‘Freight Transport by Water picks up Pace’) organised by the Province of South Holland on Wednesday, 20 June.

GAC Greece Joins Green Award Foundation

GAC Greece has become the latest GAC company to sign up to the Green Award (GA) Foundation’s scheme, underlining its commitment to environmental issues. Under the scheme, GA-certified ships that use GAC's ship agency services at Greek ports can claim a 10% discount on the company’s agency fees. By joining the incentive scheme, GAC Greece demonstrated its commitment to applying and promoting measures to encourage green shipping. The Green Award Foundation is a non-profit, independent international platform for the maritime industry to stimulate safer, cleaner shipping by supporting vessels that go beyond legally required standards. Participating ports and maritime service providers provide incentives for vessels through the scheme, to achieve a safer, greener and sustainable future.

ABS Joins Green Award Certification Network

Kamji Marine joins Green Award Scheme

Green Award Foundation has announced that their network of incentive providers has extended to China. Kamji Marine Agency Ltd entered the Green Award scheme. Kamji Marine Agency headquarted in Zhoushan with branch offices in Europe. The company is a husbandry agent (local agent in Zhoushan port and a general agent for all other Chinese ports. It offers a wide range of services such as sludge disposal, tanker cleaning, dry dock repair, technical repair, store & spare parts supply and acts as a SPRO agent. Green Award certified ships and offices are offered a 3% discount for owner matter agency, no cash payment on board the ship for SPRO retainer fee and a 5% discount on sludge disposal, tank cleaning, technical repair and store & spare parts supply.

ClassNK and Green Award Strengthen Ties

ClassNK and Green Award announced that they would further broaden their cooperation to ensure safety and minimize negative effects of the shipping industry. ClassNK became a Green Award incentive provider. ClassNK, a ship classification society, known for its highest quality classification services, covers about 20 percent of the world merchant fleet. The society is committed to safety and the prevention of pollution of the marine environment. As such a representative of ClassNK has been a member of the Board of Experts of Green Award Foundation for a number of years.

Alphatron Marine has launched the Alphatron Marine Magazine, an international glossy to communicate and share Alphatron Marine and JRC news, show its latest innovations and deliveries and tell about the group’s locations and services worldwide. the magazine will also give the floor to customers and business partners. Green Award Launches Certification of Inland Passenger Vessels

Green Award, the quality mark for ships that meet the above-industry standards, expands to a new ship type. From 1st of January 2017 the Green Award certificate is available for inland passenger vessels. Green Award certifies sea-going and inland navigation ships that go beyond the industry required standards. Established in 1994 as a certification scheme for sea-going oil tankers, Green Award has grown to a world-wide recognized quality assessment organization accepting 5 types of sea-going ships and with incentive providers all over the world.

Panama Canal Launches Green Award System

The Panama Canal has launched the Green Connection Award, a new initiative to recognize customers who demonstrate excellent environmental stewardship, and to encourage others to implement technologies and standards to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Panama Canal customers that meet and exceed environmental standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and/or other globally recognized standards will be considered. Liberian Registry to Recognize Green Award Ships

Nijmegen Rewards Clean Inland Vessels

From the 1st of January, 2016, Green Award certified inland barges receive a 15% discount on the harbor dues in Nijmegen. Ships holding a Green Award certificate are cleaner, produce less noise and have higher fuel efficiency. With this action the largest inland port of the Netherlands stimulates further development of sustainable shipping. The Port of Nijmegen is now a participant of the Green Award scheme – an international certification scheme that already unites 16 inland ports and 573 inland ships.

Port of Amsterdam to Reward Green Barges

The cleaner the vessels, the larger the discount on Inland Harbour Dues. Port of Amsterdam will be joining the Green Award program for inland barges on January 1, 2015, making it the first port to reward vessels based on their Green Award level. The level a vessel has attained – Bronze, Silver or Gold – will determine the discount on the Inland Harbour Dues its operator pays for Amsterdam harbour waters. Port of Amsterdam’s membership in the Green Award program is consistent with its sustained efforts to reduce its own impact on the environment and promote clean air, cleaner water and clean soil. New Incentive for Ships that Bunker LNG in Rotterdam

Rotterdam is introducing an additional incentive to bunker LNG, liquefied natural gas. The Port of Rotterdam Authority has reserved a total of EUR 1.5 million for this incentive. The scheme will apply until 2020. Up until this time, seagoing vessels that bunker LNG in Rotterdam can benefit from a 10% discount on gross seaport dues thanks to the new scheme. Allard Castelein – CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority – announced this on 15 December 2015 during the second day of the ‘LNG Masterplan final event’. LNG is the cleanest fossil fuel. Encouraging the use of this fuel is in keeping with the Port Authority’s aim to make Rotterdam’s port the most sustainable in its class.
