Hapag-Lloyd Expands Feeder Network in Scandinavia

From the beginning of June, Hapag-Lloyd will be integrating the Port of Oslo into its Baltic Express Service (BAX). The BAX will then link a total of six ports in Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Norway, Poland and Russia with the hubs in Hamburg and Bremerhaven, from where it will be connected to Hapag-Lloyd’s global service network. The first ship is scheduled to depart from Oslo on June 4. The new port rotation of the BAX service is as follows: Hamburg – Bremerhaven – Oslo – Muuga/Tallinn – Saint Petersburg – Kotka – Klaipėda – Gdynia – Hamburg.

General Dynamics Appoints Kirchmaier AIS President

General Dynamics announced that Thomas W. Kirchmaier has been elected a vice president of the corporation and appointed as president of General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, reporting to David K. Heebner, executive vice president of the company's Information Systems and Technology group. Kirchmaier succeeds Lewis F. Von Thaer, who resigned in April. The appointment is effective immediately. Kirchmaier, has been the senior vice president and general manager of the Intelligence Solutions division of General Dynamics Information Technology since 2007, leading a worldwide organization with more than 4,600 professionals which provides high-technology solutions for the U.S. intelligence community, selected DoD commands and agencies, their coalition partners and NATO.

Catamaran Passenger Ferry Delivered to Cruise Whitsundays

Incat Crowther announced the delivery of Cobia, a 24-meter Catamaran built by Aluminium Marine in Queensland, Australia. Cobia is the fourth vessel utilizing the new-generation 24-meter design, following on from Fantasea Sunrise, Freedom Sovereign and Riverside Avalon. The design, featuring modern sleek styling, efficient construction, and a robust and stable hull, has been utilized for a number of Queensland operations, with the vessels proving successful in the Whitsundays, Yeppoon and Gladstone. Cobia seats 124 passengers in its main deck cabin, with a large bar / kiosk located aft.

New Hapag-Lloyd Feeder Service for Baltic Region

Hapag-Lloyd will launch its new Finland Express Service (FIX) on April 2 to improve links between the Baltic region. The feeder service will connect Russia, Finland and Sweden with Hamburg and Bremerhaven, the two major North German hubs in Hapag-Lloyd’s worldwide service network. These two ports offer links to a total of 26 direct mainliner services operated by Hapag-Lloyd from/to Asia, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, North and South America, Africa, Southern Europe and Australia. With the new FIX service, Hapag-Lloyd will offer its clients a second weekly departure from/to key Finnish and Russian ports, complementing its existing Russia Express Service (REX) which was launched last May.

24M Catamaran Passenger Ferry Nearing Completion

Incat Crowther announced that a 24m Catamaran Passenger Ferry under construction at Aluminium Marine in Brisbane, Australia has left the shed. This vessel is available for immediate sale, and can be customized to suit the operator’s requirements. Itis suitable for commuter service, day cruise operations or crew transfer. Built to Aluminium Marine’s consistently high standard, this vessel follows in the wake of Fantasea Sunrise, Freedom Sovereign and Riverside Avalon. This new generation of 24m passenger vessels has set new standards of performance, efficiency and seakeeping.

US Warship Raps in New Year

QM3 Patrick Cunliffe, USN, posted the ship’s traditional New Year’s midnight log entry in 'Rap-style' aboard 'USS Reuben James'. On New Year's Eve the ship was on routine patrol in the South China Sea. Continued the watch underway as before, 
with warship Five Seven on her final tour. The crew lay asleep in their comfy racks,
entrusting their shipmates would have their backs. The night was so peaceful, like many before,
as the watch teams waited for what lie in store. “Boats” stood by with bells at the ready,
while the helm held the ship at a course that was steady.

G6 Alliance: Feeder Shuttle Between Germany and Gothenburg

The partners of the G6 Alliance will underline their commitment to the Scandinavian market and start a dedicated G6 feeder shuttle to Gothenburg. The service will provide  coverage for the time of the temporary winter suspension of Loop 3. The rotation of the Gothenburg Express service (GTE) will be Bremerhaven, Hamburg, Gothenburg and Bremerhaven again with calls at both terminals CTA and CTB in Hamburg. First sailings of the GTE are scheduled for 18 November in Bremerhaven, 20 November in Hamburg and 22 November in Gothenburg (ETA). The G6 Alliance members are APL, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Nippon Yusen Kaisha and Orient Overseas Container Line.

Incat Crowther Launches 24m CAT Ferry

Incat Crowther has announced the launch of 24m catamaran ferry Freedom Sovereign. Launched by Aluminium Marine in Queensland, Australia, Freedom Sovereign is a near sister ship to Fantasea Sunrise, launched last year. Freedom Sovereign has been delivered to Freedom Fast Cats, who have had considerable success with Freedom Flyer (built 1980) and Freedom Monarch (built 2010), both designed by Incat Crowther. Freedom Sovereign is configured to carry 195 passengers over two decks. The main passenger cabin seats 121 passengers, arranged in booths with tables.

Incat Crowther is pleased to announce the launch, trials and delivery of the 24m Catamaran Ferry Fantasea Sunrise. In June, Incat Crowther announced the sale of the vessel to prominent Great Barrier Reef operator Fantasea Cruises. Since that announcement, Brisbane shipyard Aluminium Marine has tailored the vessel for Fantasea’s operation, including interior lounges and the application of striking graphics inside and out. Fantasea Sunrise is fitted with 119 seats in the main deck cabin and 38 lounges seats in the upper deck cabin. A large bar/kiosk has been installed aft in the main deck cabin.

Fantasea Cruises to Take Delivery of Catamaran Ferry

Incat Crowther and Aluminium Marine have confirmed the sale of a 24m catamaran ferry nearing completion in Brisbane. The vessel has been sold to the prominent Great Barrier Reef operator Fantasea Cruises, who will take delivery of the vessel immediately upon completion of sea trials.
