Essberger Tankers Sign Deal with GAC

Europe’s chemical tanker operator Essberger Tankers has entrusted its ship agency requirements to Gulf Agency Company (GAC) companies in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.Under the agreement, GAC will handle an estimated 600-800 port calls a year for Essberger Tankers’ fleet of vessels carrying a wide range of high-grade chemicals.The deal comes after more than 20 years of successfully managing Essberger’s port calls in Finland. Riding Shipping's Digital Wave

A smart shipping survey conducted in January 2018 found that, while the majority of maritime industry executives believe digitalization and big data will transform the sector, only 8.7 percent  currently see it as a major part of their operations. Unpredictability and disruption have made the past decade anything but smooth sailing for the global shipping industry. Volatile trade patterns and policies, low freight rates, fluctuations in commodity prices and within global demand have all contributed to a highly competitive environment which requires careful navigation by shipowners.

Middle East Maritime Professionals Flock to North's P&I Course

A wide variety of shipowners, operators and other senior maritime professionals from throughout the Middle East region have attended North P&I club’s residential course in P&I insurance and loss prevention held in Dubai this week. A total of 46 delegates from 21 organisations signed up for the ‘A’ rated, 170 million GT club’s four-day course at the Dubai Marine Beach and Resort Spa, which concluded yesterday (13 September 2012). They included representatives of many of North’s Middle East members - including Adnatco, Bakri Navigation, E Ships, Mideast Ship Management, MUR Shipping, Oman Shipping, Stellar Ocean Transport, United Arab Chemical Carriers and United Arab Shipping Company.

Castillo Joins T&T Bisso

The T&T Bisso Response Network announced the addition of Mirian Castillo to its team. Castillo will serve as operations assistant for the company’s Salvage & Emergency Response group. Born in Ecuador, Castillo began her career as an operations intern for Gulf Agency Company in Houston. She became a port disbursement analyst for Heidmar Inc., a commercial operator of tanker vessels based in Norwalk, Conn., and was later promoted to vetting and quality coordinator in support of tanker vetting and fleet management operations.

Chevron Renews GAC Contract

Gulf Agency Company Ltd. (GAC), a global provider of shipping, logistics and marine services, announced the contract renewal with Chevron Shipping Company LLC (CSC), the fleet subsidiary of Chevron Corporation. Under the continuing arrangement, GAC remains CSC’s sole provider of tanker agency services worldwide. The new contract was signed by GAC Group Executive Chairman Björn Engblom and CSC Vice-President & General Manager Marine Transportation Alexander Walker at CSC’s headquarters in San Ramon, California on 1 June 2006. CSC has a long-standing relationship with GAC, going back to the early 1970s when GAC was a growing force in ship agency services in the Middle East.

Double-Hulled Products Carrier for Dubai Company

In late August of this year the Dubai Drydocks delivered a handsome 45-metre lube oil tanker to Gulf Agency Company of the same city. The vessel, named GAC Mumtaz was built to a design from Mr. G.S. Chopra of Seatech Solutions in Singapore. With a beam of 12 metres the boat will carry up to six TEU (20-foot equivalent unit) containers in addition to three 50 cubic metre lube oil cargo tanks. Other tankage includes 60 cubic metres of fuel and 20 cubic metres of water. The steel fabrication materials for the hull and superstructure plate ranges from eight to eleven millimetres. The 3.5-metre moulded depth of the hull is built with a double skin and bottom for added safety. Accommodation is provided for ten people.
