Intermanager and ITF Sign MOU

Global union federation the ITF and international ship managers' association InterManager signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that encourages them to work together on areas such as maritime safety, training, and preventing the criminalization of seafarers. The understanding was signed by InterManager Secretary General Guy Morel and ITF Seafarers' Section Secretary Jon Whitlow. The MOU identifies a significant overlap in the goals and objectives of the two organizations in the field of shipping's human element. It also recognizes the potential benefits of greater cooperation in areas such as: criminalization and the fair treatment of seafarersā€¦

InterManager Salutes Capt. Vanderperre

InterManager, the international association of in-house and third party ship managers, has paid tribute to the life and memory of Captain Charles Vanderperre, the founder of Univan Ship Management and the long-accredited grandfather of modern day third party shipmanagement, who died at the age of 88. In a statement, Guy Morel, General Secretary of the Association, said: ā€œWe salute his memory and applaud the work he did in driving forward the development of third party shipmanagement. Captain Vanderperre, who handed over the responsibility for the day to day operations of Univan to the management team some months ago, passed away peacefully on 19th September, in his 88th year, after a long illness. A private funeral will take place in Thailand this week.

S Korea Court Decision Condemned

InterManager, the international trade association for inā€house and third party ship managers, has condemned the decision by South Korean appeal court judges to jail the Master and Chief Engineer of the Hebei Spirit. Guy Morel, General Secretary of InterManager, slammed the retrial decision, which comes after the pair were found innocent of the same charges by a South Korean court in June this year. ā€œIt is unacceptable that these two dedicated seafarers should be treated in this way,ā€ Mr. Morel said. InterManager, whose members represent a worldwide fleet of some 2,500 vessels and more than 100,000 crew, believes the plight of the Hebei Spirit pair has already had a detrimental effect on recruitment at a time when seafarers are in short supply.

Measuring Quality in Ship Management

The results of a three year study designed to draw up a panā€industry set of usable and comparable Key Performance Indicators to measure quality ship management services will be unveiled by InterManager, the trade association of inā€house and third part ship managers, at its Annual General Meeting in Singapore on November 17th. MC Shipping Appoints New CEO

MC Shipping announces that with effect from August 1st, Tony Crawford, CEO of V.Ships Financial Services & Projects Division, will take up the position of CEO and President of MC Shipping. On secondment from V.Ships, Tony takes over from Enrico Boggazzi as CEO and Guy Morel as President. Crawford will also replace Tullio Biggi on the Board of Directors of the Company. The new management will implement a business plan which will grow MC Shipping's activity around a number of market opportunities including the LPG sector. The Board also announces the formation of a Nominating and Governance Committee made up of the independent directors. This Committee is being formed a year ahead of the time mandated by current legislation.
