Cal Maritime Leadership Symposium
Trade and transportation organizations with close ties to California’s vital maritime industry will gather in Sacramento May 12-14 for the California Maritime Leadership Symposium. The event is organized by The California Association of Port Authorities (CAPA), California Marine Affairs and Navigation Conference (CMANC), California Marine & Intermodal Transportation System Advisory Council (CALMITSAC), The Harbor Association of Industry and Commerce, the Propeller Club of Los Angeles/Long Beach and the California Maritime Academy. “Our focus will be education and information,” explained David Hull, Port Director of the Humboldt Bay Harbor District and chair of the symposium.
MarAd Names New Associate Administrator for Intermodal Systems Development
The Maritime Administration has appointed H. Keith Lesnick its new Associate Administrator for Intermodal Systems Development. In his new role as associate administrator, Lesnick will provide leadership and oversight to the Office of Infrastructure Development and Congestion Mitigation; the Office of Marine Highway and Passenger Services; the Office of Deepwater Ports and Offshore Activities; the Office of Shipper and Carrier Outreach; and the agency’s nationwide Gateway offices in New York, Miami, St. Louis, Houston, San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Norfolk, Va. Hearing – Securing LNG Tankers to Protect the Homeland
The House Homeland Security Committee conducted a hearing entitled Securing LNG Tankers to Protect the Homeland. Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) stated that he was concerned about the significant increase in LNG imports and the increased safety and security risks related thereto. Mr. Jim Wells, Government Accountability Office (GAO), testified that the public safety consequences of a liquefied natural gas spill need clarification. Rear Admiral Brian M.
