Cosco Opens New International Hainan-ASEAN Liner Route

The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) and COSCO Shipping  'Hainan-ASEAN (Singapore)' Liner Route, co-hosted by Hainan Provincial People’s Government and COSCO Shipping, was launched at Hainan Yangpu Xiaochantan Terminal owned by Hainan Harbor & Shipping Holding.Hainan Governor Shen Xiaoming announced the launch of the maiden voyage.The “Hainan-ASEAN (Singapore)” Liner Route opens a direct passage through which goods from China’s western regions can be shipped southward to Singapore via Yangpu Port, as well as a new channel for transferring cargo from China’s coastal ports to Southeast Asia via Yangpu.It declares that Yangpu Port in Hainan has turned to a new pivot of ILSTC and marks that ILSTC…

Four High Speed Ferries Ordered at Aulong

Aulong Shipbuilding, a joint venture company between Australian shipbuilder Austal and Guandong Jianglong Shipbuilding of China, has secured contracts for four new high speed ferries. Under the recently awarded A$20 million (US$15.6 million) contracts, Aulong will design and build four 42-meter high speed catamarans for Xidao Dazhou Tourism Co Ltd. Construction will commence from Aulong’s Zhongshan shipyard in Guandong Province in March 2018, with delivery scheduled for early 2019.

China to Add 8 Cruises to Push Tourism in South China Sea

Three State-owned enterprises from the shipping, tourism and construction sectors will cooperate to equip up to eight cruise liners and offer diversified sightseeing services to tap the travel market in the South China Sea, says China Daily. Sanya International Cruise Development Co Ltd, a joint venture by COSCO Shipping, China National Travel Service (HK) Group Corp and China Communications Construction Co Ltd, will buy between five and eight ships. In addition to buying between five and eight ships, the plan calls for the construction of new docks in the resort city of Sanya. Liu Junli, chairman of Sanya International, said the ships may also "cruise around the South China Sea at the appropriate time," according to China Daily.

COSCO to Roll out Cruise to Xisha Islands

China’s state-owned COSCO Shipping Corp plans to launch cruise services in the South China Sea in July, reports Reuters. The first route is expected to travel from Sanya to the Yongle Island, part of the Xisha Islands in Hainan province. Its part of Beijing’s plans to transform several islands in the disputed waterway into tourist destinations to bolster its territorial claims. "It is practical to stimulate the local economy through development of tourism, logistics and infrastructure facilities," Xu Lirong, chairman of COSCO Shipping, said. China COSCO Shipping signed a contract with China National Travel Service (HK) Group Corp and China Communications Construction Co Ltd in late April, to jointly establish a cruise company to offer tourism services in the South China Sea.

CNOOC Profits Nosedives, Eyes South China Sea

Cnooc Ltd., China’s biggest offshore oil and gas explorer, posted a 56 percent decline in profit for the first half of this year. Net income dropped to 14.73 billion yuan ($2.3 billion), or 0.33 yuan a share, from 33.59 billion yuan, or 0.75 yuan, a year earlier, the Beijing-based explorer said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange Wednesday. That exceeded the 13.9-billion yuan average of three analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Despite profit fall, the company kept its dividend payout the same as the year-earlier level. Planned capital expenditure reduction by about 30 billion yuan this year and first-half savings of 12 billion yuan on an oil production tax helped offset lower cash inflows due to lower oil prices.

Chinese Navy Conducts Drill in South China Sea

The Chinese navy has announced 10 days of military training in the waters near eastern Hainan Island in the South China Sea starting on Wednesday, amid heightened tensions in the region. Playing down the significance of the exercises, the Chinese military said the drills, started yesterday in the east of Hainan Province, are not directed against neighbours. "The drills are regular military exercises scheduled in the annual plan, without targeting any other country," the Ministry of National Defence said. During the training, 'no vessel is allowed to enter the designated maritime areas', according to China's Maritime Safety Administration, which released the drill plan on Monday.

Custom Ro-Pax Delivered in China

The first Ro-Pax cruiser designed and built in China for the Chinese market has entered into service on January 1, 2015. The ship, named San sha No. 1, can carry wheeled cargo, containers, trailers as well as passengers, and was delivered to China's southernmost city Sansha in Hainan Province to tackle the city's lack of transportation capacity. The vessel is a conventional propulsion Ro-Ro Passenger vessel designed to transport vehicle and containers on a single cargo deck in compliance with Chinese Classification Society Rules and Chinese Flag regulations.

China apprehending boats weekly in disputed S.China Sea

Chinese patrols enforcing disputed new fishing rules in the South China Sea are apprehending foreign boats on a weekly basis, Communist Party officials said on Thursday. In comments that provide the first window on how China is enforcing new rules criticized by Washington, the party secretary for Hainan Island said Chinese patrols attempted to peacefully negotiate with vessels that initially ignored warnings to leave Chinese waters. "First of all we would try to dissuade them, tell them to get out, this is our area, and then we negotiate and dissuade as much as possible," Luo Baoming, party secretary for Hainan province, said on Thursday.

China Navy Commission New Guided Missile Frigate

A ceremony for the frigate "Meizhou" of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) has been held at a naval port in Sanya in south China's Hainan province, officially naming & commissioning her to the South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN. The "Meizhou" (584) is a new-generation light guided missile frigate independently developed by China. It integrates many types of weaponry and equipment, and features good stealth performance, great information integration, lower cost, easy operation and simple maintenance.

China Shipbuilder CSIC Diversifies Operations

China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) signs agreement with Sansha Municipal Government to work on infrastructure energy & water resources. China's major ship-building conglomerate will start infrastructure, energy and water resources projects in Sansha, the country's southernmost city in the South China Sea, reports China Daily. The Sansha Municipal Government signed a package of cooperation agreements with China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, the state-owned conglomerate that engages in manufacturing and scientific research in a number of maritime industries. Sansha is China's youngest city, set up in July on Yongxing Island in the South China Sea to administer the Xisha, Zhongsha and Nansha islands and their surrounding waters.

AMSC Submits Appeal to China's Supreme People's Court

DEVENS, Mass. – AMSC, a global solutions company serving wind and grid leaders, announced that it has filed an appeal with China's Supreme People's Court relating to the Hainan Higher Court's decision on April 5, 2012, to uphold the Hainan Province No. 1 Intermediate People's Court's dismissal of AMSC's civil case against Sinovel Wind Group Co. Ltd. (Sinovel) and Dalian Guotong Electric Co. Ltd. (Guotong). This is the smallest of four legal actions AMSC has brought against Sinovel. In total, AMSC is seeking to recover from Sinovel more than $1.2 billion for contracted shipments and damages in these cases, which stem from Sinovel's contractual breaches and AMSC's discovery of intellectual property theft by Sinovel employees.

COSCO Signs Contracts with Four Shipyards

Xinhua reported that COSCO Group, China's leading shipping and logistics service provider, inked in Boao, Hainan Province on Saturday contracts with four domestic shipyards to build 66 ships. Zhang Fusheng, a COSCO spokesman, did not disclose the total value of these shipbuilding contracts but said they summed up to a record amount for the shipping giant. The move is to help meet China's strong demand for shipping as the country's fast economic development gives rise to more imports of energy resources and more auto imports and exports, said analysts. Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, attended the signing ceremony on the sidelines of the annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia.
