China Meets Europe at DNV GL Headquarters

The future of EU–China relations, the country’s investment in Europe as well as sustainable growth and environmental protection in the Chinese economy were just some of the topics on the agenda at the 6th Hamburg Summit last weekend. To foster new relationships and honor key players for their efforts in European–Chinese cooperation, classification society DNV GL hosted a dinner in its global maritime headquarters in Hamburg. “We are committed to China and will continue to strengthen this commitment in the future. Hamburg Simplifies Access for Shipments

The operational parameters for the high-volume and heavy goods shipments into the Port of Hamburg, generating such significant added value, are in need of sustained improvement through efficient infrastructure and lean authorization procedures. Such is the call from the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, der Unternehmensverband Hafen Hamburg (UVHH), Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM) and der Verband Straßengüterverkehr und Logistik Hamburg (VSH). “Three out of four machines manufactured in Germany go for export, and it is therefore essential to secure the access to main traffic routes and overseas ports,” stated Fritz Horst Melsheimer, President of the Chamber of Commerce.

Hamburg Cruise Port Marks 500,000 Passengers

The Hamburg Cruise Port said it reached the 500,000 passenger mark in a single season. The port anticipates further growth forecast for 2014, with the 200th ship in sight. “The visit by the Queen Mary 2 to Hamburg on November6, 2013 will go down in the annals of Hamburg’s cruise industry and become an unforgettable ship’s call for everyone concerned,” said Frank Horch, Senator of the Ministry for Economic, Transport and Innovation Affairs. The visit was not only the 168th call of the current season but also marked the arrival of the 500,000th cruise guest in the city.

Drydocks World recently welcomed Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz, CEO, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Germany. Structural Change in Coastal, Inland Shipping

Experts discuss potential solutions at the 9th ShortSea, Feeder and Inland Waterway Shipping Dialogue. Volatile freight and charter rates, high fuel prices, unemployed vessels and the problems of ship financing are leading to structural change in coastal and inland waterway shipping. Drydocks World Reaches Agreement with ABB

Drydocks World, the most productive shipyard in the Middle East will have a dedicated service point for ABB turbochargers. ABB Turbocharging will now have a dedicated service point for ABB turbochargers in the Drydocks World facility in Dubai, a leading international player in ship repair, ship conversion, ship building and offshore fabrication. To mark this cooperation, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the SMM in Hamburg, one of Europe’s leading maritime exhibitions, where Drydocks World will have its largest-ever representation at the show this year. Hamburg to India Liner Service Upgraded

Within the EU the Port of Hamburg is one of India’s most important commercial partners in seaborne foreign trade. In November the Hamburg Joint Representative Office in Mumbai was officially opened. This is designed to strengthen economic, but also cultural and academic links between the two countries. Rickmers Celebrates 175 Years

Their family has been involved in shipping for 175 years. They are the fifth generation and today run two independent groups of companies: Bertram and Erck Rickmers, entrepreneurs and ship owners from , will be celebrating the 175th anniversary of the Rickmers family in shipping today, . Anke Joins Hamburg Liaison Office in Shanghai

Lars Anke will head the Hamburg Liaison Office Shanghai. The 28-year-old sinologist, historian and political scientist brings experience within his activities for medium-sized companies in the Asiatic area as well as in association work. The Hamburg Liaison Office in Shanghai is borned by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the Hamburg Business Development Corporation, the Port of Hamburg Marketing, and the Hamburg Tourism Board. It is the official lobby of the Hanseatic City in China. Anke became acquainted with the staff, the duties and the organization of Port of Hamburg Marketing during a meeting of harbour representatives from 4 to 8 September in Hamburg.
