Hansa Heavy Lift GmbH Files for Insolvency

Hansa Heavy Lift GmbH has filed an application with the Hamburg District Court for the opening of insolvency proceedings. The court has appointed the experienced Hamburg restructuring expert, lawyer and tax consultant Dr. Christoph Morgen as preliminary insolvency administrator. He is a specialist insolvency solicitor and partner in the national law firm Brinkmann & Partner.Dr. Christoph Morgen will now get an overview of the current business situation and examine what the company’s first steps within the proceedings could be.Hansa Heavy Lift operates eleven heavy-cargo vessels. The company was founded in 2011.

Hansa Heavy Lift Delivers Egina Carousel to Nigeria

Hansa Heavy Lift  has transported a giant carousel together with eight reels, weighing a total of 3,508.7 metric tonnes, from Newcastle, United Kingdom to Lagos, Nigeria destined for the Egina Oil Field.The voyage took place on board the super heavy lift vessel HHL Lagos, which was mobilised in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to prepare the vessel with additional deck strength for the extralarge carousel, which weighed over 2,200 metric tonnes including spooled product and had a diameter of over 25 metres.“Close connection between the Hansa Heavy Lift engineering, superintendents and the vessels crew allowed for a fast deck reinforcement through the installation of additional underdeck stiffeners and a spooling platform…

Dawson, Karakassis appointed Managing Directors, Hansa Heavy Lift

Steve Dawson and Alex Karakassis have been appointed Managing Directors of HANSA HEAVY LIFT GmbH, taking over from outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Roger Iliffe, with immediate effect. Dawson will oversee HANSA HEAVY LIFT’s engineering, technical, and operational activities, and Karakassis, who remains Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will oversee the company’s commercial and financial activities. Both have been with HANSA HEAVY LIFT since its inception in 2011. Ship-to-shore Cranes Shipped via The Northern Sea Route

HANSA HEAVY LIFT has transported the first-ever ship-to-shore (STS) cranes via the Northern Sea Route (NSR), relocating them from the port of St Petersburg to the port of Vostochny, spanning both the European and Far East regions of Russia. HHL Valparaiso is the first vessel to sail open hatch through the Northern Sea Route, which is covered by thick ice for most of the year and has a limited window of about two months open to cargo voyages. This allowed the two cranes, each weighing 820 metric tonnes and measuring 61 meters in height and 92 metres in width…

Five Large Cranes Delivered to Bulgaria and Egypt

HANSA HEAVY LIFT has transported five Gottwald mobile harbor cranes, weighing a total of 1,400 metric tonnes, loading them in Denmark and Belgium and delivering them to Bulgaria and Egypt. All five cranes were lifted and stowed fully-erected on deck, which limited the line of sight for the crew aboard HHL Rio de Janeiro, requiring an extra radar scanner to be installed on the foremast. Extra risk assessments were also carried out prior to commencing the voyage, in order to fully comply with all local and flag regulations.

Heavy Lifting: Giant Pipe Racks Shipped for New FPSO

From Brazil to China and then back to Brazil, five pipe racks and three modules weighing a total of 1,871.51 metric tons and measuring 24,075 m³ will be transported by heavy lift shipping specialist HANSA HEAVY LIFT for a new floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) to eventually operate off the coast of Brazil. With the heaviest piece weighing 730 metric tons, the cargo was loaded onto the HHL Valparaiso at the ports of Itajaí and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil before being transported to Qingdao…

Huge Shiploader Journeys from China to the US

A shiploader weighing more than 560 metric tons has made the voyage from Nantong, China to Portland, Ore. in the U.S. with the help of transporter HANSA HEAVY LIFT GmbH (HHL). The shiploader, which measures 36.5 meters in length x 56.44 in width x 31.50 in height, was loaded onto cargo ship HHL Richards Bay for transport, discharging at the Port of Portland where engineers installed it onto the pier for Sandvik Mining and Construction. “The biggest challenge was to lift the shiploader over the conveyor rail at the Port of Portland…

Megayacht Launched from Cargo Ship in Turkey

Cargo ship HHL Valparaiso’s two 700 ton cranes have lifted a new luxury yacht built by Sunrise Yachts from the dock to the sea for its world premiere in Antalya, Turkey. HANSA HEAVY LIFT has used two of its on-board cranes, which have a combined lifting capacity of up to 1,400 metric tons to maneuver the 900 metric ton and 63.1 meter long megayacht M/Y Irimari into the sea. “This was a very sensitive heavy lift operation that required special engineering expertise at each stage, from planning to execution,” said Emek Takmaz, Project & Transport Engineer, HANSA HEAVY LIFT.

General Cargo Shipments Keep U.S. Great Lakes Ports Busy

The St. Lawrence Seaway reported that year-to-date total cargo shipments for the period March 22 to October 31 were 28 million metric tons, down 7% over the same period in 2012. With only two months left in the shipping season, U.S. ports are hustling to move as much cargo as possible. "The Seaway's principal commodities - iron ore, coal and grain - helped move the scales in the right direction for cargo tonnage handled on the Great Lakes-Seaway System," said Rebecca Spruill, Director of Trade Development at the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.
