New Cruise Ships Start Build in Germany

Genting Hong Kong and its Hong Kong–German shipbuilding group, MV Werften, announced a new Universal Class of cruise ships targeted at customers outside of Genting's cruise brand portfolio of Dream, Crystal and Star.The keel-laying of the second 208,000 gross ton Global Class ship for Dream Cruises took place December 10 at MV WERFTEN in Rostock.The midship section of the Global Class ship is being produced in Rostock. The transfer of the first 160,000 gross ton midship section for the first Global Class ship – the Global Dream – from Rostock to the covered dock of Wismar was completed only two weeks ago.At 235m long and 20 decks high

Neptun Werft Lays Keel for AIDAcosma

The first building-block for AIDA Cruises’ second LNG-fueled cruise ship was put in place at the Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock, Germany.The two trainees, Charleen Hoffmann (AIDA Cruises) and Kenny Schaft (Meyer Werft shipyard) placed the traditional lucky coin beneath the first of a total of 90 blocks.On the occasion of the keel-laying, the name of the new ship and its first routing were announced: the ship will be named AIDAcosma, and will be cruising from Kiel to the Norwegian fjords and the Baltic Sea from summer 2021.Together with the Managing Director of the Meyer Werft shipyard Tim Meyer and the head of the Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock Manfred Ossevorth

MV Werften Rolls-out New Production Facility

Hong Kong–German shipbuilding company MV Werften put into operation the laser-hybrid welding line in its new hall 11 for producing panels measuring up to 25 x 16 meters for the Global Class cruise ships.Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Economics Minister Harry Glawe, representatives of Genting Hong Kong, MV Werften , the automation provider Pemamek as well as other project partners were present in the new Hall 11 when the plant produced its first weld seam.“The new plant enables us to make a significant increase in the capacity of our steel prefabrication for the Global cruise ships in Rostock and take a further, important step towards Industry 4.0.

Keel Laid for Dream Cruises’ New 204,000 gt Ship

A keel laying ceremony for Dream Cruises’ Global-Class flagship was held at MV WERFTEN’s Rostock shipyard today.At 204,000 gross tons and with 2,500 suites and cabins, the new cruise ship designed specifically for the Asian market will be the largest ever to be built in Germany. The first section measuring 22 meters long, 26 meters wide and weighing 410 tons, about half of the full keel, marks the start of construction.Approximately 1,000 shipyard employees, partners and guests attended event.

MV Werften Cuts First Steel for Crystal Endeavor

Shipbuilder MV Werften said it has begun building Crystal’s new luxury expedition yacht, Crystal Endeavor, with first steel cut on January 15 at its shipyard in Stralsun, Germany. Set to debut in 2020, Crystal Endeavor will be Crystal’s largest and most spacious purpose-built Polar Class ship featuring all-suite, butler-serviced accommodations, and adventure in polar regions and other remote destinations. MV WERFTEN Fertigmodule Starts Production

MV WERFTEN Fertigmodule GmbH will supply fully prefabricated state-of-the-art passenger and crew cabins for the ships of the Global and Endeavor Class, with the first ones due as early as spring 2018. With the building of the first reference cabin, MV WERFTEN Fertigmodule GmbH officially started production September 1. Genting Hong Kong Group President Colin Au, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s Economics Minister Harry Glawe and numerous representatives of MV WERFTEN attended the landmark occasion.

MV WERFTEN Constructing New Shipbuilding Hall

MV WERFTEN has started constructing a new hall complex that will house its new panel, section and section outfitting lines at the shipbuilder’s shipyard in Rostack, Germany. The symbolic first cut of the spade, carried out by Genting Group’s Chairman and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s Minister for Economic Affairs Harry Glawe, Rostock‘s senior mayor Roland Methling and MV WERFTEN Chief Operating Officer Holger Tepper, signaled the beginning of the construction of the new hall 11.

MV WERFTEN Invests Another $14.4 Mln in Wismar Yard

The founding of a new cabin factory is part of the MV WERFTEN Group’s extensive investment program at its Wismar site. MV WERFTEN Fertigmodule GmbH, part of the MV WERFTEN Group, officially took over its own cabin factory in Wismar. The facilities with a total area of 22,000 square meters will be used for manufacturing ship cabins for the cruise ships with delivery from 2020. Besides a modern production area of 8,700 square meters, the acquired premises have over 4,000 square meters of storage area.

MV WERFTEN, Foreship Sign Design Agreements

MV WERFTEN signed a letter of intent with the engineering company Foreship in Stralsund today. The agreement includes parts of the basic design as well as design, purchasing and production assistance of the “Endeavor” class luxury expedition yachts. The 20,000 GT cruise vessels will be built at MV WERFTEN Stralsund, with production starting late 2017 and deliveries from spring 2019. “We are excited to build a series of the world's first purpose-built expedition yachts, with PC6 polar-class designation,” stated Jarmo Laakso, Managing Director of MV WERFTEN. “Our own staff at all sites and other subcontractors have already been fully involved in this project.

Newly Formed MV WERFTEN to Focus on Cruise Builds

Genting Hong Kong announced that the three shipyards in the German State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern bought this April will be named as MV WERFTEN*, be managed in Wismar and will focus on building large new cruise ships. Nordic Yards at Russia's Top Shipbuilding Fair

"Russia is and will remain an essential market for us", stated Vitaly Yusufov, owner and Managing Director of Nordic Yards. Currently there are a number of Russian contracts in the Nordic order books. For example yesterday, September 23, construction of two ice-breaking rescue and salvage ships ordered by Russia's Ministry of Transport in December 2012 started at the Nordic Yards shipyard in Wismar. After delivery in 2015 they will be used for patrol and rescue operations on the northern Polar Sea route.

Maritime Industry Gears up for St. Petersburg
