Schmidt Ocean Institute's 'R/V Falkor' to advance studies of artificial reefs, red tides & uncharted regions of the Gulf of Mexico. Senator Landrieu to Keynote Conference on the Deepwater Horizon Lessons

New Orleans, - Observing the second anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon accident off the Gulf Coast, Senator Mary Landrieu will be the keynote speaker at the North American Marine Environment Protection Association’s (NAMEPA) conference on April 20. Entitled “Deepwater Horizon: Two Years After and Beyond,” the conference will be held at the Sheraton New Orleans with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. “It is important to reflect on the lessons from the Deepwater Horizon tragedy, as we move forward with responsible exploration and production of deep sea oil and gas,” said NAMEPA Chairman Clay Maitland. “Safety and environmental stewardship is mandatory to protect not only workers, the oceans and coastlines, but also the livelihoods of our citizens.

Senator Mary Landrieu to Keynote Environmental Conference on the Deepwater Horizon Lessons; Industry, public and government to meet on second anniversary of accident. The bipartisan Commission, established through an Executive Order, is tasked with providing recommendations on how we can prevent – and mitigate the impact of – any future spills that result from offshore drilling. The Council is co-chaired by former two-term Florida Governor and former U.S. Senator Bob Graham and former Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency William K. Reilly. Frances G. Frances Beinecke is currently the President of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a non-profit corporation that works to advance environmental policy in the United States and across the world. Ms. Beinecke has worked at NRDC for 35 years, serving as executive director, associate director and deputy executive director.
