The Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Natonal Center of Expertise, industry experts provide technical training for future LNG fueled vessel inspectors.The Coast Guard’s Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise (LGC NCOE) partnered with Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville to coordinate a four-day “LNG as Fuel Workshop” Sept. 17-20, 2018, for future inspectors of LNG fueled vessels, with support from industry experts and the Coast Guard’s Marine Safety Center.Together, this team of LNG as fuel specialists provided Coast Guard marine inspectors from across the U.S.

Harvey Gulf's Guidry Remains Confident as Bankruptcy Plays Out

Harvey Gulf Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Louisiana-based Harvey Gulf International Marine LLC, which has more than 50 vessels in its fleet and supplies offshore oil rigs among other services, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Houston. Harvey Gulf did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The company said in court papers it had more than $1 billion in debt and has an agreement with lenders to reduce what the company owes. In return lenders would receive the equity in the company when it exits bankruptcy. Other creditors such as suppliers will be paid in full. A sharp drop in oil prices in 2014 cut demand for rigs, and over the past year many offshore drilling and service companies such as Seadrill Ltd and Ocean Rig UDW Inc have filed for bankruptcy.

Shell Charters LNG Bunker Barge in US

Shell Trading (US) Company announced it has finalized a long-term charter agreement with Q-LNG Transport, LLC for an LNG bunker barge with the capacity to carry 4,000 cubic meters of LNG fuel. As the first of its kind to be based in the United States, the ocean-going LNG bunker barge will supply LNG to marine customers along the southern East Coast of the U.S. and support growing cruise line demand for LNG marine fuel. "This investment in LNG as a marine fuel for the US will provide the shipping industry with a fuel that helps meet tougher emissions regulations from 2020," said Maarten Wetselaar, Integrated Gas and New Energies Director at Shell. The LNG bunker barge will be owned and built by Q-LNG Transport, LLC, and operated by Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC.

Eastern Delivers MPFSV to Harvey Gulf

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. has delivered the M/V Harvey Stone on August 29, 2016 for Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC of New Orleans. The Harvey Stone, Eastern Hull 234, is a Rampage 6400 Multi-Purpose Field Support Vessel (MPFSV), designed by Robert Allan, LTD (RAL) of Vancouver, B.C. Eastern is also completing the Harvey Sub-Sea and the Harvey Blue-Sea, two MPSVs under construction at Eastern, from a design provided by VARD Marine. The Harvey Sub-Sea is expected to deliver in 2016, after outfitting and sea trials are completed.

New Offshore Vessel to be Fitted with Cathelco BWTS

Cathelco is supplying a ballast water treatment (BWT) system for a new offshore vessel built by Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc., for Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC. The Harvey Stone (Hull 234), a Rampage 6400 multipurpose field support vessel (MPFSV), with a length of 64.8m and 18m beam, is due to be delivered in Q2 2016. The Cathelco BWT system is based on a combination of filtration and UV technology and has a capacity of 150m3/hr. Cathelco’s well established agent in New Orleans, Green Marine & Industrial Equipment Co.,Inc.,won the order.

Eastern, Harvey Gulf Launch MV Harvey Stone

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launch of the M/V Harvey Stone (Hull 234) on December 18, 2015 for Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC of New Orleans. The Harvey Stone is a Rampage 6400 multipurpose field support vessel (MPFSV), designed by Robert Allan, LTD of Vancouver, B.C. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern employees, several representatives from Harvey Gulf and guests in attendance. Deacon Tim Warner of Saint John’s Catholic Church of Panama City, Fla., performed the blessing of the vessel.

Harvey Gulf International Marine LLC made maritime history in North America last week by being not only the first owner/operator of a dual fuel offshore support vessel to bunker LNG as a marine fuel but to also successfully complete the first truck to vessel transfer of LNG and to power the M/V Harvey Energy on LNG. The Harvey Energy built at GCSG in Gulfport, MS is based on the Vard Marine 1 311 design and is 310x64x24.5ft powered by 3 Wartsila 6L34DF dual fuel gensets providing 7.5MW of power fueled by Wartsila’s LNGPac system. Another LNG Fueling Milestone for Harvey Gulf

Harvey Gulf International Marine LLC has received the first ABS Classification Certificate and the first USCG Certificate of Inspection for a vessel powered by LNG. The M/V Harvey Energy is the first LNG powered vessel in service in North America. Last week, Harvey Gulf performed the first truck to vessel transfer of LNG, the first vessel to bunker LNG and was the first U.S. Flagged LNG powered vessel to enter into port while being powered by LNG. The vessel will be based out of Port Fourchon, La. and will immediately begin its long term charter role.

Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC reported that its dual fuel offshore support vessel (OSV) M/V Harvey Energy has today bunkered LNG as a marine fuel. The news makes Harvey Gulf the first North American owner/operator of a dual fuel OSV to bunker LNG as a marine fuel, as well as the first to complete a truck to vessel transfer of LNG. The bunkering took place at a shore-based terminal owned by a subsidiary of Martin Midstream Partners L.P. in Pascagoula, Miss. Thoma-Sea Launches Two TAI Designed Ships

Technology Associates, Inc. (TAI) of New Orleans, La., announced that two derivatives of vessels built from TAI’s EnviroMax designs were both launched this week. Another EnviroMax OSV built from its design was also delivered a week earlier. Thoma-Sea Shipbuilders, has launched the Regulus, a DP 2, FiFi I Offshore Supply Vessel from its Houma, La. shipyard on May 27. The 272' OSV was built to service deep water oil and gas exploration. The vessel has two 2,000 kW Z-drives and two 850kw bow thrusters powered by a total installed power of 7.35 MW.

Wärtsilä Signs Harvey Gulf OSV Maintenance Agreement

Wärtsilä says it has signed a long-term Technical Management Agreement with Harvey Gulf International Marine LLC (Harvey Gulf). This five-year agreement covers Condition Based Maintenance & Dynamic Maintenance Planning for 8 offshore supply and multi-purpose support vessels – 6 liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelled platform supply vessels and 2 offshore construction vessels powered by diesel fuel. The signed agreement ensures ideal running conditions and optimized maintenance for Harvey Gulf’s new vessels. It ensures that their engines – 18 Wärtsilä 34 dual-fuel engines and eight Wärtsilä 32 engines – always run at the optimal level, with optimized fuel economy and maintenance costs. Technical management is based on continuous condition monitoring data and periodical inspections.
