ASRY Active in Bahrain Coast Guard Newbuilds

Icon Terminates Shipbuilding Contract

Icon Offshore Bhd and its partner FOB Swath Malaysia A/S have agreed to terminate their shipbuilding contract with Denmark-based Danish Yachts AS. Icon-FOB Holdings (L) Inc in which Icon Offshore holds a 51% stake while FOB Swath Malaysia owns 49%, terminated the contract with Danish Yachts to build a fast crew boat due to the latter's failure to construct the vessel in accordance with the technical specification. "Both (Icon-FOB Holdings) and Danish Yachts have agreed to mutually terminate the contract and make full refund of the payment made to date," the company said in a statement. As a result of the shipbuilding contract being cancelled, IFSB intends to terminate the joint venture.

Tug KOC Shahem Named in Romania

On 30 October Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) CEO Mr Hashem Sayed Hashem attended the naming ceremony of the ASD 3212 tug vessel KOC Shahem at Damen Shipyards Galati. The KOC Shahem is the second in a series of 14 tugs that Damen is building for KOC. KOC will use the tugs to assist tankers at near shore loading terminals and at new single point moorings offshore. The two companies have a lasting relationship that spans over 25 years. KOC awarded Damen the contract to design, construct and deliver the series of tugs in September 2012. A naming ceremony for the Kuwait Oil Company’s (KOC) new ASD 3212 tug vessel, KOC Shahem, was held October 30 at Damen Shipyards Galaţi. The KOC Shahem is the second in a series of 14 tugs that Damen is building for KOC to assist tankers at near shore loading terminals and at new single point moorings offshore. The two companies have a lasting relationship that spans over 25 years. KOC awarded Damen the contract to design, construct and deliver the series of tugs in September 2012. Damen Shipyards Galaţi is constructing all the vessels.

Nationalization on the Move at Drydocks World

Following Bahrain's 2012 IMO World Maritime Day Parallel Event, Mr. Sekimizu received US$50,000, from ASRY towards IMO’s maritime security activities. The cheque from local shipbuilding and repairers ASRY was presented by Daij Bin Salman Al Khalifa, Chairman of ASRY, in the presence of Hassan Ali AlMajed, Chief of the Port and Maritime Authority, Ministry of Transportation. 'Stolt Valor' Evaluation on Track at ASRY

The chemical tanker, Stolt Valor, which caught fire on March 15, 2012, north of Bahrain, was  docked at ASRY after Bahrain agreed to accept the ship into its territorial waters. Maritime experts from General Organisation of Sea Ports (GOP) are liaising with the Arab Ship Building and Repair Yard Company (Asry), which is overseeing the operation to determine the salvage process of the damaged Liberian ship Stolt Valor with its owners. Technical findings following the evaluation of the tanker's condition are expected by the end of the week, reports 'Gulf Daily News'. "The evaluation of the vessel is continuing as planned and will be done to the highest international standards.

Stricken Liberian Tanker Finds Refuge in Bahrain

The General Organization of Sea Ports (GOP) said that the Liberian vessel -- MV Stolt Valor -- was granted permission to take refuge in Bahrain’s waters. Libyan Navy Visits British Training Base

The delegation led by Commodore Hassan Ali Bushnak, Chief of Staff of the Libyan Naval Force, forms part of a wider visit by the Libyan delegation to the Royal Navy in the UK to build relations, offer opportunities, and to help understand the enormous challenges Libya faces in creating a modern naval force. During their time at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint the visitors were able to see recruits undergoing their 10-week initial naval training course. The visitors were shown the facilities used to teach recruits how to safely handle and fire the SA80 rifle and first aid training.
