Classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) said it has awarded Approval in Principle (AIP) to Norwegian ship owner Egil Ulvan Rederi AS for its zero-emission self-discharging hydrogen-fuelled bulk carrier, With Orca. The vessel is planned to enter into a long-term transport contract with cargo owners Felleskjøpet Agri and Heidelberg Cement.With Orca will be fully zero-emission in all operations. It will be powered by hydrogen, stored onboard in compressed form, and the hydrogen combustion engine will be optimized for increased efficiency.

Wärtsilä said it bagged a contract in March to provide the engines, propellers and control system for a new, large-size hopper dredger being built by the Netherlands-based shipbuilding company Damen Shipyards Group. The vessel has been ordered by Cemex UK, supplier of building materials.Wärtsilä will prepare the engines ready for use with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to reduce emissions, making the vessel compliant with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Tier III regulations.

German asset and investment manager Ernst Russ Group has sold its stake in Marenave Schiffahrts AG, a shipping company in Germany. "The focus of the Ernst Russ Group’s work was on restoring the business activities and realigning Marenave Schiffahrts AG in the maritime sector. This was concurrent with the strategic approach of Ernst Russ Group and offered potential to enter into a successful partnership," said a statement from the company. In a quiet residential district in Cologne, hundreds of kilometers from the sea, Gottfried Knöbel opens the door of his house to reveal an incredible collection that spans three floors. Just inside the door, in Knöbel’s home office, ships fill a giant glass case: tankers, cargo vessels, containerships and passenger ships. Almost all of them are on a 1:1250 scale, only a few centimeters tall yet tremendously detailed.

Statoil together with co-owners in the Stampede development in the Gulf of Mexicohas sanctioned the Stampede project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Statoil said it will invest $1.5 billion in the Stampede development, which is expected to begin production in 2018. Statoil owns 25% of Stampede, which is operated by Hess. Stampede, a new project named from unitizing the former discoveries of Knotty Head and Pony, is located approximately 350 kilometers (215 miles) from New Orleans, Louisiana at a water depth of more than 1,000 meters (3,500 feet). The reservoir depth is 9,100 meters (30,000 feet).

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation awarded a contract to BMT Scientific Marine Services Inc (BMT) to provide an Environmental and Platform Response Monitoring System (EPRMS) and an Independent Remote Monitoring System (IRMS) for the Heidelberg spar in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The EPRMS monitors, logs and displays data in real-time to provide operational support functionality and archives data for assessing the facility’s integrity over time. The EPRMS for Heidelberg is comprised of a computer console, remote sensor packages, data acquisition software and custom operator displays.

Statoil's second quarter 2013 net operating income was NOK 34.3 billion. Adjusted earnings were NOK 38.0 billion. "Statoil delivered an operationally solid quarter. Deepwater mooring specialist, First Subsea Ltd has been awarded a contract by Technip Inc to supply the subsea mooring connectors for a 23,000-ton truss spar platform moored in 5,310ft (1,620 m) of water in Anadarko Petroleum Corp's Heidelberg field development in Green Canyon Blocks 859, 860,903, 904 and 948 in the Gulf of Mexico. Telaurus Communications, a Globecomm Maritime company, has appointed Geoff Davison as Product Manager – Value Added Services. Geoff joins Telaurus with 20 years’ experience in electronics, telecommunications and information technology in the marine, military and avionics markets. For the last 10 years Geoff has held a senior position with AND Group, leading its technical support team for the last five years. His main role will be to develop new sales worldwide through promotion of Telaurus Value Added Services both internally and externally.

StatoilHydro has together with operator Anadarko and partners made a discovery in the Vito prospect in deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Vito well is located in Mississippi Canyon block 984, about 70 kilometres southwest of the Thunder Hawk field. The well was drilled to a total depth of 9,757 metres and is believed to have encountered some 80 metres of net pay, although final test results are still pending. "Vito is our second discovery in the Gulf so far this year. Both Heidelberg and Vito are located in the Miocene play, in areas known for good quality sand development," explains Helen Butcher, head of StatoilHydro's exploration in the Gulf of Mexico.

On Wednesday, 6 May, StatoilHydro received first oil from the Chevron-operated Tahiti field in the US Gulf of Mexico. Tahiti is expected to produce 125,000 barrels of oil and two million cubic metres of natural gas a day, reaching plateau production later this year. With Tahiti on stream, StatoilHydro will more than double its production from the US Gulf of Mexico. StatoilHydro's interest in the Tahiti field was acquired through the EnCana Gulf of Mexico acreage acquisition in 2005, with Tahiti being sanctioned later that year.

StatoilHydro, operator Anadarko and partners have made a discovery in the Heidelberg prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Heidelberg well is located in Green Canyon block 859 about 16 kilometers south of the Caesar discovery. The well was drilled to a total depth of about 9,000 meters and encountered some 60 meters of oil pay. The operator has announced plans for an appraisal well at Heidelberg scheduled for the second half of 2009. "Heidelberg is a promising discovery located close to several other finds and the current Tahiti development in which StatoilHydro has a working interest," said Helen Butcher, StatoilHydro's general manager for exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. "Heidelberg is a part of the Miocene play known for high quality sands," Ms Butcher said.

Rainer Schöndube, Member of the Executive Board at Germanischer Lloyd AG, will resign from office leaving the management on September 300. He will, however, stay affiliated with Germanischer Lloyd as adviser. With his retirement Schöndube, who has been responsible for the commercial field and the Industrial Services at Germanischer Lloyd, gives way for a change in the Executive Board. On September 1, 2007 the Executive Board of Germanischer Lloyd will be extended by Dr Joachim Segatz. Dr Segatz will take over Mr Schöndube's finance division. Dr Segatz studied Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on aircraft construction and fluid mechanics at the Technical University Braunschweig, Germany.

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the cause of a collision between two ships that occurred at the IMTT Myrtle Grove facility near Point A La Hache, La. The collision occurred between the Heidelberg Express, a 773-foot German container ship, and the Yerot Sakos, a 737-foot Liberian cargo ship full of iron ore. The Heidelberg Express experienced a loss of power when traveling outbound at mile marker 57 along the Lower Mississippi River, and the crew of the Heidelberg Express dropped both anchors in an attempt to stop the vessel. There were no reports of injuries or pollution at the time of the incident and the waterway remains open and unrestricted. Investigators from Coast Guard Sector New Orleans are on scene to investigate the cause of the collision.
