Raymond Hunt, to produce innovative boats with rugged seaworthiness, is now celebrating its 50th year. “Ray Hunt was a genius, able to intuitively know how boats work and with the courage to experiment,” said C. Newport International Boat Show Annouces NFNP Winners

Wind Energy Components Bound for Duluth Port

Minnesota Power and the Duluth Port said they will reach a milestone this weekend when the 15th ship bearing wind generation equipment destined for Minnesota Power’s growing renewable energy installation in North Dakota sails into the harbor beneath the Aerial Lift Bridge. The BBC cargo ship, Peter Roenna is expected to arrive in Duluth late Sunday night carrying more than two dozen renewable wind energy components after a voyage from Brande, Denmark, where the equipment is manufactured by Siemens A.G.

My-Villages Purchases DockMaster

My-Villages, a marine mobile technology company, has acquired DockMaster, an information management solution provider for marine retailers, marinas and service centers. The integration of DockMaster software and My-Villages’ consumer and professional application, called The Boat Village, will create an integrated software solution for marine businesses in the industry. By combining the DockMaster and The Boat Village technology products, My-Villages will serve more than 600 marinas, dealers, boatyards and marine service centers in North America and the Caribbean, and facilitate the care of tens of thousands of vessels. Rhode Island: Open for Business

Rhode Island’s economic assets include a surprising number of prominent and lesser known maritime firms. A recent media tour hosted by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) highlighted the Ocean State’s key role(s) in the nation’s maritime industry. As the state of Rhode Island – along with everyone else, so it seems – works to revitalize a struggling local economy, it has become increasingly apparent that the marine industry will play a prominent role in that revival. In March, the Ocean State’s marine trade industry opened their doors to national trade media, showcasing the important work being done here in the ocean state.

USS Constitution – 200+ Yrs of Service

The crew of USS Constitution - the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world - celebrated the ship's 211th birthday and recognized the performance of her Sailors Oct. 21. More than 100 people attended the celebration, including her crew, staff members of the USS Constitution Museum and invited guests for the annual "Grog Ceremony" on her decks. The party also included a birthday cake and the presentation of the Berenson Award, the Military Historical Society of Massachusetts Leadership Award, and Millerick Award. Blaney Joins Mack Boring Marine Transmission Center

Jim Blaney, formerly president of Aquadrive Systems, Inc., has joined Mack Boring & Parts Company of .  The announcement was made by Mack Boring Co-Presidents Ned and Steve McGovern. He will become business development manager for Aquadrive products at Mack Boring's .  Blaney introduced Aquadrive products to the marine market more than 25 years ago. Utilizing precision CV joints and thrust bearings, Aquadrive systems connect marine engines to any type of drive on most vessels. They reduce vibration and noise while eliminating alignment problems.  Many leading builders have used Aquadrive products for years, including Hinckley, Pearson, Fleming, , Hood, Caliber, J Boats and Zodiac.

Hinckley Appoint Frank and Bernard in Electronics Department

Hinckley Yacht Services, the newly renamed Little Harbor full service complex here, has announced the appointment of David Frank as electronics department supervisor, establishing the department as a full service dealership. He will be assisted by Roger Bernard as electronics service manager. Previously, electronics work at Little Harbor was subcontracted out to vendors and technicians in the Portsmouth area. "These men have been working in the marine electronics business for over 25 years so they know the clientele and the demands of the job," said Geoff Prior, operations manager of the yard. Frank brings 17 years of experience as a marine electronics technician. manufacturers such as Furuno, Northstar, B&G, Seatel, and Raytheon.

Newport Shipyard Expands Management

Newport Shipyard is expanding its management team in order to handle an influx of new work. Mark Mutty, with over 28 years in the boating industry and well versed in both yacht and commercial applications of yacht repair and maintenance, is the Yard Manager for the Shipyard. He was previously Facilities/Yard Manager for Hinckley Yacht Services (formerly Little Harbor Marine) and for Newport Offshore Ltd. Ann Souder, the Director of Marketing, has been a consultant on marketing and promotions to the super yacht industry. She has over 25 years experience in marketing both in the United States and Europe. In addition to her marketing responsibilities, she will coordinate the various special events that take place at the Shipyard. Captain Tom Donovan is the Commercial Projects Manager.

The shipyard is expanding its management team so that the yard can better handle an influx of new work. Mr. Mark Mutty, with over 28 years in the boating industry and well versed in both yacht and commercial applications of yacht repair and maintenance, is the Yard Manager for the shipyard. He was previously Facilities/Yard Manager for Hinckley Yacht Services (formerly Little Harbor Marine) and for Newport Offshore Ltd. A lifelong resident of Portsmouth, R.I.
