Panama Maritime Authority, ClassNK Ink MOU on Cybersecurity

The Panama Maritime Authority has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan-based Class NK on cyber security.The Panama Maritime Authority, aware of the role that maritime transport represents and the risks it faces because of the technological growth on board, said it wants to encourage all the Panamanian fleet’s shipowners, operators, and any other interested parties, to report incidences derived from any cyber event. Hiroaki Sakashita has been appointed as President & CEO as well as a Representative Director of classification society ClassNK, effective March 18, 2020. Current Senior Executive Vice Presidents Tetsuya Kinoshita, Junichiro Iida, and Dr. Toshiyuki Shigemi will continue in their present roles on the team, joined by Hirofumi Takano and Taira Narisawa as Executive Vice President.Koichi Fujiwara has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors, leaving the post of Representative Director, President & CEO.

NAPA BoD Adds Svensen

NAPA, a maritime software, services, and data analysis provider, has announced the appointment of Tor E. Svensen, Vice President, Marine Technology at Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines to its board. Svensen has previously served as CEO of DNV GL Maritime, chairman of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), and professor at the University of Strathclyde.As CEO of DNV GL Maritime, Svensen helped to outline a consistent vision of shipping's technology-enabled future, which achieved sustained, empirical improvements in safety, sustainability, and efficiency.

Global Experts Gather for Ship Recycling Seminar

Around 300 people gathered in Tokyo on May 12 to attend a ship recycling seminar held by leading classification society ClassNK. In addition to ClassNK representatives, top industry experts from Asia and Europe discussed the current challenges of ship recycling and what the industry can do to support safe and environmentally sound recycling practices. Koichi Kato, Deputy Director-General for Engineering Affairs, Maritime Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), opened the seminar with a keynote address.

ClassNK Establishes New Standards for FLNG/FLPG Sector

April 28 (Tokyo) - Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) is pleased to announce the publication of its new Guidelines for Floating Offshore Facilities for LNG/LPG Production, Storage and Offloading. The new guidelines address the wide variety of construction and survey requirements for FLNG and FLPG facilities including LNG/LPG Floating Production, Storage and Offloading facilities (FPSO), Floating Production and Offloading facilities (FPO), and Floating Storage and Offloading facilities (FSO).
