Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has partnered with Hiroshima University, the National Institute of Maritime, Port and Aviation Technology and Marubeni Corporation to jointly work on research and analysis of maritime logistics and shipping market conditions using artificial intelligence (AI).In recent years, it has become possible to use comprehensive, chronologically ordered ship movement and static data, such as position (coordinate information), speed, direction, port of call and drafts, for ships with over 300 gross tonnage traveling internationally. Dr. Toshiyuki Shigemi has been appointed as Executive Vice President as well as Executive Director of ClassNK, effective March 7, 2016. Yasushi Nakamura has stepped down as Senior Executive Vice President, and has been appointed as an Advisor to the Society. Dr. Shigemi joined ClassNK in 1981. Tsuneishi Builds 200th Kamsarmax Bulk Carrier
Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. finished building an 82,000-mt D/W type bulk carrier Ultra Lion on January 7, 2015, marking the completion of the builder’s 200th Kamsarmax model vessel. Built by Tsuneishi Group Shipbuilding, Inc. at Zhoushan City in the Zhejiang Province of China, the Ultra Lionwill be delivered to buyer KambaraKisen Co., Ltd. New FORAN Academic License Agreements in Japan
Concluded FORAN Academic License Agreement with Hiroshima University. SENER concluded FORAN Academic License Agreement with Hiroshima University on February 15, 2013. Hiroshima University is the first licensee who introduced FORAN Academic License in Japan. It is very honorable to welcome Hiroshima University as a new FORAN user. Associate Professor, Ph.D. Akihiro Takezawa, Division of Mechanical System and Applied Mechanics, Faculty of Engineering of Hiroshima University, and Alfonso Cebollero, SENER Regional Director for Asia & Pacific, signed the Agreement at Okayama, where a FORAN seminar was taking place. Mr. Takezawa is an extensively active researcher and expert in the field of structural and vibration analysis, not only in the shipbuilding area.
ClassNK Announces New Head of European Operations
Dr. April 7 (London) - ClassNK officially announced the appointment of Dr. M. Abdul Rahim to the role of Regional Manager in charge of the Society’s European and African operations at a party at the InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel last night. Nearly 100 guests from without the local maritime industry we’re in attendance at the party to welcome Dr. Rahim to his new position and see off former Regional Manager Tetsuya Kinoshita, including current IACS Chairman and ClassNK Chairman and President Noboru Ueda.
