U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced the appointment of 29 new members to the Marine Transportation System National Advisory Committee (MTSNAC). Honeywell has announced that it has received a contract to supply its Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) automation controls and tank gauging systems for Finland’s first LNG import terminal. The new terminal will efficiently supply natural gas to marine vessels and industrial facilities in Finland, helping to replace other fuels that have higher emissions. Honeywell’s technology will help to efficiently supply natural gas to marine vessels and industrial facilities in Finland from Skangas Oy’s LNG facility in Pori. In addition, Honeywell’s Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) will connect and power comfort, safety and security systems within the LNG terminal itself.

In 2011, several refrigerated, reefer containers exploded, killing three port workers. While there has been no further tragedies since then, counterfeit refrigerants remain in circulation and still represent a safety risk. Counterfeit refrigerant cylinders can consist of a dangerously unstable cocktail of gases, blended to roughly mimic the most common refrigerant, R-134a. These cylinders are often loaded with rogue gases such as R-40. Though similar to R-134a, R-40 reacts with aluminium to form trimethylaluminum, a highly volatile substance that, when exposed to air, can explode.

The Security Industry Association (SIA) says it has chosen Gordon Hope, general manager of Honeywell's AlarmNet communications network, as the 2014 recipient of the George R. Lippert Memorial Award. Hope, who celebrates 25 years with Honeywell this year, joined the company in 1989 when it was Ademco. He began in marketing, with responsibilities including the control panel family. Over time, he added responsibilities, ultimately becoming director of marketing and then vice president of marketing in 2006. Philadelphia Energy Solutions plans to start operating a new benzene offtake terminal next month at its 335,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Philadelphia, two people familiar with the plans said. While most U.S. refiners are either selling benzene or refining it further, Philadelphia Energy Solutions is using the new terminal to help bring the chemical into the facility, according to an IPO document filed last month. The benzene facility is the latest step in building up infrastructure at a plant that was nearly shuttered in 2012. Benzene boosts the octane level of gasoline and reduces knocking in car engines, but is also a carcinogenic and the federal Environmental Protection Agency requires refiners to strip most of it out of the finished product.

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington infomred that Tidewater Marine International Inc. has sold their 41.2m x 8.2m x 3.5m depth / 2.38m draft, high-speed, aluminum crew / supply vessel “Patrice Tide” to private European operators. Built by Breaux Brothers Enterprises, Inc. of Loreauville, Louisiana in 2002, the vessel is powered by four 1,007bkW Cummins KTA 38M2 diesels totaling 5,400BHP driving four 44” x 46” fixed pitch props. This produces a speed range of 15 – 30kn on abt. 100 – 260gph, and range of abt. 1,721nm at economical speed. Vessel’s maneuverability is enhanced by a 150HP tunnel bow thruster. The 233.7mtdw, Vanuatu-flagged vessel has a deck cargo capacity of abt. 182.9mt on a 22.9 x 7.0m, 1.9t/m2 clear deck aft and a total of 72 persons on board.
