BAE Systems’ Clifford Honored with Naval Award

Bill Clifford, president of Norfolk-based BAE Systems Ship Repair, has received the prestigious Frank C. Jones Award, presented by the American Society of Naval Engineers. Clifford was honored by his peers today at the annual Fleet Maintenance and Modernization Symposium held in Virginia Beach. The annual award recognizes leaders in naval engineering who have substantially and significantly contributed to ship maintenance and alteration programs for naval vessels. How did you come to your current position? Clifford    I currently serve as the president of BAE Systems Ship Repair and have been in this position since 2008. In this role, I lead our six full service shipyards and our 5,000 highly skilled employees. Prior to assuming my current role, I was the vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair. Before joining BAE Systems, I spent more than 20 years in the private sector serving in senior management positions at several shipyards.

United Defense Completes Acquisition of Honolulu Shipyards Assets

United Defense Industries, Inc. has completed its acquisition of the U.S. Navy ship repair business of Honolulu Shipyard Inc. (HSI) for $16.1 million. HSI had revenues of $40 million in 2003. The new company, Hawaii Shipyards, Inc., will continue to partner with Southwest Marine (SWM), a unit of United States Marine Repair (USMR), a UDI subsidiary. The Company recently announced a teaming agreement with Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, for work on the USS CHAFEE (DDG 90), home ported in Hawaii. "I welcome the HSI team to our family of shipyards," said Al Krekich, president of USMR. "We look forward to working with this well-established, talented group of ship repair professionals.

Honolulu Shipyard Awarded Contract

Honolulu Shipyard Inc., Honolulu was awarded a $5,919,000 firm-fixed-price modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-02-D-8506) for the Docking Selected Restricted Availability for USS Hopper. Work will be performed in Honolulu and is to be completed by March 2003. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, U.S. Navy, San Diego Detachment Pearl Harbor, Hawaii is the contracting activity.
