BAE Systems to Begin Building Next UK Warships in 2017

BAE Systems Gets $1.3b for New UK Warships

The U.K. Ministry of Defense has signed a $1.3 billion contract with BAE Systems for equipment to build the next generation of warships for the British navy, Prime Minister David Cameron announced today. BAE Systems has been working on plans to provide Britain with 13 new warships since 2010, Reuters reported, adding that the new contract enables the shipbuilder to continue developing the project by investing in the equipment and facilities needed before building can begin. UK Inks Design Contract with BAE

Britain agreed an 859 million pound ($1.32 billion) contract with BAE Systems on Friday, giving the green light to the British defence company to continue with the next phase of design for a new fleet of warships. BAE Systems has been working on plans to provide Britain with 13 new Type 26 complex warships since 2010. The new contract paves the way for it continue to develop the project by investing in the equipment and facilities that will be needed before ship building can start. BAE Systems, which on Thursday was upbeat about future defence spending after years of cuts to military budgets, said the deal built on its long heritage of delivering complex warships in Britain.

BAE Systems Inc. Appoint DeMuro President & CEO

Jerry DeMuro, formerly executive vice-president and corporate vice president of the Information Systems and Technology group at General Dynamics,  has been appointed as president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc., effective February 1, 2014 to succeed Linda P. Hudson, who had announced last year her intention to retire from the company in 2014. DeMuro will be appointed as an executive director of BAE Systems plc and will serve on BAE Systems’ Executive Committee, as well as on the board of BAE Systems, Inc.

BAE Systems Appoint Group Communications Director

Claire Divver has been appointed as BAE Group Communications Director. She will join the group early in the new year and will be a member of the BAE Systems Executive Committee, reporting to Chief Executive Ian King. Claire was formerly General Manager, Group Corporate Affairs for Xstrata plc where she was responsible for the global communications of the multinational diversified mining group. She joined Xstrata in 2004 and was also a Board member of Xstrata Nickel, one of Xstrata’s five global commodity business units.

BAE Systems' Leader Linda Hudson Set to Retire

Linda P. Hudson, president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc. since 2009, has announced her plan to retire from the company following a distinguished career in the defense industry. To ensure a seamless transition, Hudson has agreed to remain in post through the first quarter 2014. At that time, she will also step down from her positions as executive director of the BAE Systems plc Board and as a member of the Company’s Executive Committee. She will remain on the BAE Systems, Inc. Board as an outside director through April 2015. Hudson, 62, joined BAE Systems, Inc.
