New CEO Nominated for Royal Van Oord

The Supervisory Board of Van Oord intends to nominate Govert van Oord as the new CEO of Van Oord. The formal appointment will take place at Van Oord's Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on April 11, 2024.The Board is pleased to be able to transfer the leadership of the family business from the 4th to the 5th generation Van Oord family.Govert van Oord has been with Van Oord since 2002 and has worked for the company in the Middle East, Spain and Brazil, among others. He is currently responsible for the Dredging & Infra Business Unit as Managing Director.

India: East Coast Ports Restrict Activities Ahead of Cyclone

Cyclone Slams Indian Coast, Millions Evacuated

Evacuations Underway as Cyclone Menaces India's Coast

India has evacuated more than 300,000 people along its northeast coastline by boat, bus and train ahead of a severe cyclone due to make landfall on Friday, with many villagers piling household possessions on to trucks before fleeing their homes.Severe cyclonic storm Fani was churning up the Bay of Bengal about 320 km (198 miles) south-southwest of the Hindu temple town of Puri where special trains were put on to evacuate tourists and the beaches were empty.In total, about 1.2 million people are expected to be evacuated from low-lying areas of 15 districts in the eastern state of Odisha to cyclone shelters, schools and other buildings…

All-Women Crew Tarini Enters Cape Town, South Africa

India's INSV Tarini entered Cape Town (South Africa) today during it’s maiden voyage to circumnavigate the globe. This is the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew. The vessel is skippered by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, and the crew comprises Lieutenant Commanders Pratibha Jamwal, P Swathi, and Lieutenants S Vijaya Devi, B Aishwarya and Payal Gupta. Mrs Nirmala Sitharaman, defence minister had flagged-off INSV Tarini from Goa on 10 September 17. The vessel has covered 17500 Nautical miles from Goa, crossing the Equator on 25 September 17, Cape Leeuwin on 09 November 17 and Cape Horn on 19 January 18.

Morch Elected to J. Lauritzen BoD

Danish shipping company J. Lauritzen adds CEO of Norwegian Odfjell, Kristian V. Mørch, and CFO of the cleaning company ISS, Barbara Plucnar Jensen, into its board of directors. "J. Indian vessel INSV Tarini entered Port Stanley, (Falkland islands on January 22, 2018 during it’s maiden voyage to circumnavigate the globe. This is the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew. The vessel is skippered by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, and the crew comprises Lieutenant Commanders Pratibha Jamwal, P Swathi, and Lieutenants S Vijaya Devi, B Aishwarya and Payal Gupta. Thygesen Named CEO of Svitzer

Henriette H. Thygesen, currently Damco CEO for the Americas, has been appointed CEO of Svitzer with effect from September 1. Thygesen, who joined Maersk Group in 1994, has been with the group for 22 years, of which the last nine with Damco. Clipper Group has appointed Peter Norborg new Group CEO, succeeding current chief Frank G. Jensen, who will continue with the company as Chairman of the Board. Norborg will commence work in Clipper on April 1, 2016. Norborg, 49, comes from a position as Chief Operating Officer at Switzerland-based open hatch/dry bulk company Gearbulk, a position he has held since 2012. Odfjell SE’s Extraordinary General Meeting, held December 9, 2015, supported the Nomination Committee's proposal and elected Klaus Nyborg as new director of the Board. Nyborg, a Danish citizen, owns no shares in Odfjell SE and has no formal ties to major shareholders of the company, according to Odfjell. Nyborg was recently Interim CEO of DS Norden AS from 2014-2015, where he has also been on the board since 2012, and chairman since 2015. He also serves board director of several other companies, including being chairman of A/S United Shipping & Trading Company and BAWAT A/S.

USCG Responds to Pollution from Sunken Vessel

Coast Guard, National Response Center and Washington State Department of Ecology personnel responded to oil pollution from a sunken 67-foot commercial vessel at Westhaven Marina near Grays Harbor, Wash., Sunday. Responders from the Coast Guard Incident Management Division in Astoria will arrive on scene Monday morning and will be working with partner agencies to monitor the situation and oversee the cleanup. After receiving a report of a possible sinking vessel at Westhaven Marina at approximately 12:40 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Columbia River watchstanders launched a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor to assess the situation. The commercial fishing vessel Persistence was found submerged at the pier, and a rainbow sheen was observed on the water.

Kristian Verner Mørch will take up his new position as president and CEO of Odfjell SE from August 1, 2015, the company’s board of directors announced. His appointment was announced in May 2015. Mørch, a member of the board of Odfjell SE since May 2014, will step down as board director of the company from the same date. Mørch is Danish citizen with more than 27 years' experience in the shipping industry, of which more than 10 years have been in senior management positions, previously holding posts as co-CEO of Clipper Group, COO of Maersk Tankers, and other management positions in A.P.

The board of directors of Odfjell SE has appointed Kristian Mørch as the company's new president and CEO. He will succeed current president and CEO Tore Jakobsen by November 1, 2015. Mørch is a Danish citizen and presently holds the position as co-CEO of Clipper Group. He has previously been COO of Maersk Tankers, and has also held other management positions in A.P. Moller-Maersk. Mørch holds an MBA from IMD (Switzerland), and is an AMP graduate from Harvard Business School. He has been a member of the Board of Odfjell SE since May 2014.

U.S. Coast Guard crews are responding to a second grounded barge near Long Boat Key, Fla., from a tugboat that was beset by heavy weather Tuesday. Due to deteriorating weather, the barge spuds were unable to keep the 140-foot barge from drifting to the beach. Coast Guard incident management personnel from Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., are on scene overseeing the operation. No pollution has been reported.
