At its meeting on March 7, 2004, Statoil's board of directors appointed Helge Lund (42) as new chief executive for the Statoil group. Mr Lund is currently chief executive of Aker Kværner ASA. "Helge Lund was the first choice of the board and we are very pleased that he has agreed to lead Statoil in the years ahead," said Statoil chair Jannik Lindbæk. Lund graduated as a business economist at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administrationin Bergen. He also has a master of business administration (MBA) from the Insead business school in France. Before he became chief executive of Aker Kværner, Lund had a number of positions in the Aker RGI system, and before that he had a central role in the top management of Hafslund Nycomed.

Inge K Hansen has been appointed Group President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the new Aker Kvaerner, one of three groups, which are being created as a result of the restructuring of the current Aker Kvaerner. The new Aker Kvaerner will be a leading industrial player with activities within oil, gas, energy and process. Inge K Hansen's previous position was acting CEO with Statoil, the Norwegian oil company. New CEO in Statoil will be Helge Lund, who until now has been CEO in Aker Kvaerner. Hansen has broad international experience from industry and financial institutions. Before joining Statoil as chief financial officer in 2000, he headed the investment bank Orkla Enskilda where he worked for six years.

Aker Kvaerner has been awarded two out of the 14 Spotlight on New Technology awards at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC). The Spotlight on New Technology, first introduced last year, is a program that serves as a stage to highlight the most innovative and significant offshore developments during the year. Martinus Brandal, former Executive Vice President of Aker ASA assumes the role of president and CEO of Aker Kvaerner, succeeding Inge K. Hansen. Hansen joins Aker ASA as a consultant to the group's management. Martinus Brandal joined Aker in the summer of 2004, and has held a number of Board positions at Aker Group companies. He is very familiar with Aker Kvaerner as a result of being a board member of the company and assisting in developing the strategy that the company has followed in the last two years. He will continue to serve as a board member of Aker Yards. Prior to joining Aker, Brandal was in charge of the Process Automation business area of the ABB industrial group and he has extensive international oil and gas experience. Chevron, with partner Kerr-McGee, has awarded Aker Kvaerner, Inc. the semisubmersible hull and mooring system contract for their Blind Faith project in the Gulf of Mexico. The contract has a total value of approximately USD 120 million. Aker Kvaerner's scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction and transportation. The award is a recognition of the deepwater competence in Aker Kvaerner. The Blind Faith platform to be located in the Mississippi Canyon 650 block, approximately 162 miles southeast of New Orleans is part of the ultra-deepwater Gulf of Mexico in 6,500 feet water depth.
