Inmarsat Awards GBP 6M Deal to Logica

Logica, the global solutions company, announced it has secured a GBP 6m contract to help develop future higher bandwidth satellite communications for global mobile satellite communications provider, Inmarsat Limited. This contract forms part of an over GBP 30 million programme with Thrane & Thrane, a leader in the market for satellite communications equipment, to build the satellite interface and other equipment that will allow Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (B-GAN) services due for launch during 2004 to be transmitted to and from terrestrial networks. Currently Inmarsat operates its Global Area Network (GAN) service which supports data speeds of up to 64 kbit/s, almost seven times faster than speeds offered by current GSM networks.

Inmarsat Unveils Fleet F77 at Europort 2001

Inmarsat Ltd, the global mobile satellite communications provider unveiled the first product in its Inmarsat Fleet portfolio, Fleet F77 at Europort 2001. family of three, Fleet F77 offers a unique new Mobile ISDN and Mobile Packet Data service for the maritime community delivering voice, fax and data services at speeds of up to 64 kbit/s. maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS) safety standard. With Fleet F77, maritime users will have the flexibility to choose the most cost-efficient two-way communications service for their varying data requirements. The mobile packet data service is a unique maritime solution, charging users only for the data they send and receive, not the time they are connected.

Inmarsat Launch New Fleet Services

Inmarsat Limited have launched the commercial availability of the Fleet F55 and Fleet F33. The new Fleet services incorporate global voice and a range of fax and data services. According to the manufacturers, Inmarsat Fleet F55 and F33 bring the benefits of satellite communications to vessels which were previously restricted by size and cost of terminal hardware. Maritime information, such as sea and weather charts, can now be accessed online and updated in real-time. Users can also enjoy the benefits of reliable, easy access to email whenever and wherever it is needed.
