Sovcomflot Elects New Chairman and New CEO

On September 24, 2019, the Board of Directors of PAO Sovcomflot elected Sergey Frank as its new Chairman. Igor Tonkovidov was appointed as the company's new Chief Executive Officer. Both appointments are with immediate effect.The meeting was attended by Maxim Akimov, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, who noted in his address: "Through consistent implementation of Sovcomflot's Strategies 2005-2011 and 2012-2018, the company has transformed itself into a global leader in energy shipping and offshore services. Over the past 15 years, Sovcomflot fleet has grown more than threefold.

IMEI Certification - Unique Achievement

For Institute of Marine Engineers of India having achieved standardisation and maintainenace of quality processes simultaneously not just at their Head Office but also their eight branches and Five Chapters, spread all over the country is unique in India, as it is run by a group of honorary volunteers who have dedicated themselves for the cause of their industry. Being an achievement worth celebrating, members of the Institute gathered on Saturday 22nd August 2015, at IME (I) House, Nerul, for the presentation ceremony of the ISO 9001:2008 Certificate. The Chief Guest for the evening was Deepak Shetty, Director General Shipping, and the Guests of Honour, Arun Kumar Gupta, CMD SCI and Shashi Nath Mishra – Head, IRQS.

Sheen Named ICG Managing Director

Andrew Sheen has been appointed by the Irish Continental Group (ICG) to the position of Managing Director of its Irish Ferries division. Sheen will assume his new role with effect from the beginning of April, reporting to ICG’s CEO, Eamonn Rothwell. Operations Director since 2012, Sheen has been involved in shipping for over 26 years, 10 of them with Irish Ferries - first as a sea-going Chief Engineer and, since 2010, in shore-based operations roles. INMARCO INAvation 2014 Opens on 11th December

INMARCO INAvation 2014, the International Maritime Technology Conference & Exhibition on “Innovations for Maritime Sustainability” is being held at the “National Centre for the Performing Arts” (NCPA) in South Mumbai from 11th to 13th December 2014. Event is jointly organised by the Institute of Marine Engineers India (IMEI) Mumbai Branch and the Institution of Naval Architects (INA), the two of the biggest Maritime Professional bodies in India. BMT Fleet Technology Names Byrtus President

BMT Fleet Technology Ltd., a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd., an international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced the appointment of Darcy Byrtus as President. Darcy joins BMT from General Dynamics Canada where he held the post of Director of Business Development for Naval Programs and Project Management. There, he was responsible for the strategic planning, opportunity identification and pursuit for all naval programs and for the promotion of General Dynamics’ capabilities to the Canadian Department of National Defence.

Celebrating the Bravery of the Titanic’s Engineering Staff

With the centenary of the tragic sinking of the Titanic on April 15, 1912 only days away, much information is being made available from many sources, and film and TV programs are bringing to the public the suffering and the loss of life of the passengers and crew. However, little is recorded of the 35 members of the engineering staff, all of whom lost their lives, and, with no survivors, the official enquiry into the sinking had no first-hand account of the actions and bravery of those men who stayed at their posts and endeavored to save the ship from sinking. The Guild of Benevolence of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) – which has a charitable link with the Titanic – hopes to redress the balance…

IMarEST Appoints ANZSPAC Executive Director

Liz Hay, Executive Director of ANZSPAC (Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific) Division

The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) has appointed Liz Hay as Executive Director of its ANZSPAC (Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific) Division. She will combine the position with her dual role as Chief Executive Officer of both the Australian Shipbuilders Association and Australian Ship Repairers Group, which are currently in the process of merging. Based on Australia’s Gold Coast, Liz has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the Australian maritime sector.

Noble Denton’s Loss

Noble Denton Group recently lost Tony Stafford, the managing director of Noble Denton Singapore and a director of Noble Denton Holdings Ltd. Stafford, born on July 28, 1945, was killed in a traffic accident in Singapore on the evening of January 12, 2002. Stafford began his career in engineering in 1963 as an assistant engineer under training with City Engineer of Sheffield and Borough Engineer of Slough. In 1969, he attended the University of Bradford where he attained a Bachelors degree in Civil and Structural Engineering, which he followed with a Masters degree in Offshore Engineering from University of Liverpool. Upon graduation, Stafford started his career with Taylor Woodrow International as a senior then later chief engineer on various construction projects.

Hoe, Yick Appointed at Keppel

Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M) appointed Hoe Eng Hock as the Executive Director of Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd with effect from July 1, 2005, following the retirement of Goh Boon Kiat on June 30, 2005. Hoe, 54 years old, will oversee the business operations and strategic development of Keppel Singmarine. A Colombo Plan scholar, he has served and held various senior management positions in the Keppel group of companies since 1975. Hoe was country manager in charge of Keppel’s businesses in Philippines between 1991 and 2002. Prior to this new appointment, he was the Senior General Manager (Production) of Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd.

IMarEST Joins OTC

The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science, and Technology (IMarEST), formerly the Institute of Marine Engineers, has joined the Offshore Technology Conference as a Supporting Organization. The OTC Board of Directors approved the addition of IMarEST at a December 2002 meeting. The addition brings the total organizations of OTC to 20-12 Sponsoring Organizations, two Endorsing Organizations, and six Supporting Organizations.
