Yang Ming Announces Subsidiary in Thailand

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation will establish a subsidiary in Thailand - Yang Ming Line (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The new company will provide all services starting 1st January 2018. Mr. Derek Chen is officially appointed as its President. Thailand is located in a strategical position in the middle of Southeast Asia with strong links to neighboring countries, whose economy has been growing steadily over the years. It is expected to see more rapid expansion of the market in the near future.

Milaha Acquires its Largest Containership

Qatar-based maritime and logistics conglomerate Milaha said it has acquired its largest container vessel to date, Majd, a 3,768 TEU vessel. Majd was built by STX Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in South Korea, and has a length overall of 246.87 meters and a deadweight of 44,985 metric tons. The new vessel will be one of the 17 container vessels that the group operates, and is part of the ongoing expansion of the group’s overall fleet. Chevron Shipping Awards Oil, LNG Contract to GAC

US-based Chevron Shipping Company (CSC) has awarded  the Dubai-based GAC Group a global three-year ship agency contract for both crude and LNG vessels. The new agreement secures the provider of shipping, logistics and marine services GAC’s status as Chevron’s exclusive global agent in a partnership that spans more than 20 years, more than 15 of which have seen GAC as its sole global agent. Operations will be overseen by GAC Hub Agency offices in Dubai, Houston and Singapore with support from GAC’s network of offices and approved agents worldwide.

Canada's Descartes Systems Acquire Dutch Software Provider

Infodis provides a rich, functional transportation management network-based solution that handles specific European logistics requirements. The solution manages both inbound and outbound purchased transportation for more than 5 million shipments per year to and from Europe, with particular strength in Europe/Asia Pacific shipping. "Logistics is a global business where local considerations play a key role in the efficiency of logistics operations," said Edward Ryan, Chief Commercial Officer at Descartes. Hutchison Ports Acquires 50% Stake in TMA

Hong Kong's Hutchison Ports has acquired a 50% shareholding in Amsterdam-headquartered terminal and logistics operator TMA Logistics. Descartes Acquires Customs Info

Descartes Systems Group (DSG), a global company in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce operating the Global Logistics Network (GLN), acquired Customs Info LLC, a U.S.-based provider of trade data content to power Global Trade Management (GTM) systems and streamline global trade automation. Customs Info provides comprehensive trade data and related research tools to more than 800 multi-national shippers to help them reduce operating costs, improve customs compliance, and accelerate supply chain speed. This trade data populates GTM systems, including SAP GTS and Oracle GTM, and includes trade tariffs, duties, regulations, trade agreements, rules of origin and other trade-related content.

Descartes Acquires KSD Software

Descartes Systems Group, a global company in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, acquired KSD Software Norway AS (KSD), a Scandinavia-based provider of electronic customs filing solutions for the European Union (EU). The EU customs compliance market is characterized by a complex framework of member states; each with different regulations, languages and systems. Transportation carriers, logistics intermediaries and shippers have looked to technology partners, like Descartes and KSD, to help them manage this complexity. KSD brings more than 1,300 customers to Descartes’ Global Logistic Network, with the majority of these companies based in Scandinavia.

Descartes Acquires Datamyne

Descartes Systems Group, a leader in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce via the Global Logistics Network (GLN), announced that it has acquired Datamyne, a provider of cloud-based trade data content solutions for customers to analyze import and export trade activity. Datamyne, primarily operating in the U.S. and South America, collects, cleanses and commercializes logistics trade data from over 50 nations across five continents, including key markets in North America, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the European Union. More than 100 million records are gathered each year from official filings with customs authorities and trade ministries.

DP World, India’s NIIF to Create USD 3 bln Investment Platform

The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), India’s first sovereign wealth fund, and Dubai-based ports operator DP World have announced the creation of an investment platform to invest up to $3 billion in ports, terminals, transportation and logistics businesses in India. The partnership follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in May 2017 and the visit to India of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and DP World Group Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, in February 2016.

Drewry Launches e-Sourcing Solution

Drewry, an independent research and consulting firm to the shipping sector, has launched a new e-Sourcing solution for global ocean transport exporters and importers. The new e-Sourcing Ocean Freight Solution (eSOFS) combines Drewry’s freight rate benchmarking intelligence, industry expertise with new technology to bring speed and efficiency to ocean freight sourcing events, the firm explained. Faced with increasingly complex, data-intensive product flows and budgetary constraints, ocean transport logistics managers within multinational retailers and manufacturers have been seeking a more efficient and cost effective process to handle procurement activities. Descartes to Acquire IES

Descartes Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire Integrated Export Systems Business; Adds a Robust Freight Forwarder and Customs Broker Community Specializing in Processing Shipments Originating in Asia. Descartes Systems Group, the global leader in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Integrated Export Systems, Ltd. and IES Asia Limited (collectively referred to as "IES") for approximately US$35 million in cash. IES provides software-as-a-service solutions that help freight forwarders, non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs), and customs brokers manage their businesses and improve profitability.

Antwerp, Metz Rail Connection Doubles in Frequency

One year after the introduction of the rail shuttle between Antwerp and Metz, the intermodal logistics operator Multi-Modal Rail (MMR) has doubled the frequency. As of the middle of January the Dutch-French company provides a second weekly container shuttle. This increased frequency offers shippers the ideal connection to deepsea services in the port of Antwerp, for their import and export consignments in the Alsace-Lorraine region. The shuttle leaves on Monday and Wednesday from Antwerp Main Hub and arrives the following day at the MMS terminal in Metz.

Sagarmala: Revolutionizing Logistics Through Port Led Development

Sagarmala, the ambitious program for ‘Port-led development’ in the country is all set to change the logistics sector performance by optimizing India’s logistics modal mix. The flagship program by the Ministry of Shipping  will help in reducing the logistics cost for both domestic and EXIM cargo with optimized infrastructure investment. An overall cost savings of approximately $6 billion per annum by 2025 is estimated from the same. According to a study conducted under the Sagarmala programme, there lies a significant potential for moving raw materials and finished products using coastal shipping and inland waterways which is 60-80% cheaper than road or rail transport.

Elemica to Acquire Optimum Logistics

Elemica has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Stolt-Nielsen’s subsidiary Optimum Logistics Ltd. Under the terms of the agreement, Elemica will acquire the full technology platform and the ongoing business operations of Optimum Logistics. operators, and freight forwarders. Current Optimum Logistics' client, Lyondell Chemical Company vice president for supply chain, Jeffrey L. Hemmer stated, "One of Lyondell's supply chain objectives is 'touchless fulfillment'. Our desire is to establish a virtual enterprise where we collaborate with our business partners to optimize the overall supply chain.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has announced that it acquired 20.9% share in PKT Logistics Group (PKT), a leading Malaysian logistics company. PKT provides end-to-end logistics solutions comprising freight forwarding, customs brokerage, contract logistics, haulage, distribution and others, to its customers from diverse market sectors. PKT owns and operates state-of-the-art, environment-friendly warehouses at its 'One Logistics Hub' in Shah Alam, Selangor, offering over 55,000m2 of warehouse space in total.

CMA CGM Acquires Stake in LCL Logistix

The CMA CGM Group informs it has taken a strategic stake in the 25-years old Indian logistics company LCL Logistix, via the group’s freight forwarding and logistics solutions subsidiary CMA CGM LOG. CMA CGM LOG said it reinforces its position in India and will leverage LCL Logistix’s Indian network as well as its presence in Canada, in the United States and in East Africa to accelerate its development. Thanks to this strategic stake, CMA CGM LOG expands both its product offering and its geographic coverage, including in emerging countries where logistics solutions demand is high. Created in 2001, CMA CGM LOG is the CMA CGM Group’s subsidiary specialized in freight forwarding and logistics solutions.

K-Line Rolls Out UAE Logistics Firm

Japan-based Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line) and Sharaf Group have established a new firm, K Line Shipping & Logistics (KLSL). Based in Dubai, UAE, KLSL will carry out businesses in the fields of marine transportation, logistics, land transportation, air cargo transportation, warehousing and supply chain solutions. The company will aim to develop new businesses through a network actively, "K" Line and Sharaf Group. FastShip And Schneider Partner Up

FastShip has come to an agreement for international transportation and logistics provider Schneider International to provide three major services to support the FastShip transportation network. The company is formulating a high-speed, transatlantic service linking the middle of Europe to the mid-U.S. The agreement calls for Schneider National, operating through logistics subsidiaries, to act as the North American third party logistics provider, managing alliance partners and engineering a supply chain that will provide a logistics solution for shippers. Schneider will oversee complete control and cargo accountability over the operation of the North American inland transportation network, which includes intermodal transportation.
