Yang Ming Establishes Regional Center for Mediterranean

Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has set up the new regional center in Mediterranean area named Yang Ming(Mediterranean) Marine Services Single-Member Limited Liability Company. The new company will start to provide services on 2nd April 2018 in Piraeus, Greece, and Mr. Ted Wu has officially been appointed as Managing Director for the first term. In light of the impressive economic growth in the Mediterranean region, Yang Ming sets up its owned company to serve as the regional center which will strengthen its presence and connect closer to Mediterranean


Samskip Nor Lines' Service to Call Rotterdam

Samskip subsidiary Nor Lines will include calls at Rotterdam for the first time in its weekly multipurpose liner service connecting to Western, Mid and Northern Norway, with effect from June 1st. The service is provided by Nor Lines' state of the art, LNG-fuelled vessels MV Kvitnos and MV Kvitbjorn. These flexible ships will sail in 14-day loops, connecting Rotterdam and Eemshaven with Norwegian ports from Hammerfest in the far north, and taking in calls including Sandnes/Tananger, Bergen, Trondheim, Ålesund, Bodo and Tromso.

Yang Ming Announces Subsidiary in Thailand

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation will establish a subsidiary in Thailand - Yang Ming Line (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The new company will provide all services starting 1st January 2018. Mr. Derek Chen is officially appointed as its President. Thailand is located in a strategical position in the middle of Southeast Asia with strong links to neighboring countries, whose economy has been growing steadily over the years. It is expected to see more rapid expansion of the market in the near future.

Canada's Descartes Systems Acquire Dutch Software Provider

Infodis provides a rich, functional transportation management network-based solution that handles specific European logistics requirements. The solution manages both inbound and outbound purchased transportation for more than 5 million shipments per year to and from Europe, with particular strength in Europe/Asia Pacific shipping. "Logistics is a global business where local considerations play a key role in the efficiency of logistics operations," said Edward Ryan, Chief Commercial Officer at Descartes. Through the acquisition, more than 200 carriers in Europe and Asia, and some of the world's leading high-tech companies, will be connected to Descartes' Logistics Technology Platform, where more than 35,000 trading partners connect and collaborate to improve logistics operations.

Descartes Acquires Customs Info

Descartes Systems Group (DSG), a global company in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce operating the Global Logistics Network (GLN), acquired Customs Info LLC, a U.S.-based provider of trade data content to power Global Trade Management (GTM) systems and streamline global trade automation. Customs Info provides comprehensive trade data and related research tools to more than 800 multi-national shippers to help them reduce operating costs, improve customs compliance, and accelerate supply chain speed. This trade data populates GTM systems, including SAP GTS and Oracle GTM, and includes trade tariffs, duties, regulations, trade agreements, rules of origin and other trade-related content.

Descartes Acquires KSD Software

Descartes Systems Group, a global company in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, acquired KSD Software Norway AS (KSD), a Scandinavia-based provider of electronic customs filing solutions for the European Union (EU). The EU customs compliance market is characterized by a complex framework of member states; each with different regulations, languages and systems. Transportation carriers, logistics intermediaries and shippers have looked to technology partners, like Descartes and KSD, to help them manage this complexity. KSD brings more than 1,300 customers to Descartes’ Global Logistic Network, with the majority of these companies based in Scandinavia.

Drewry Launches e-Sourcing Solution

Drewry, an independent research and consulting firm to the shipping sector, has launched a new e-Sourcing solution for global ocean transport exporters and importers. The new e-Sourcing Ocean Freight Solution (eSOFS) combines Drewry’s freight rate benchmarking intelligence, industry expertise with new technology to bring speed and efficiency to ocean freight sourcing events, the firm explained. Faced with increasingly complex, data-intensive product flows and budgetary constraints, ocean transport logistics managers within multinational retailers and manufacturers have been seeking a more efficient and cost effective process to handle procurement activities. Drewry said its eSOFS solution provides the flexibility and analytical capabilities to ensure well informed procurement decisions.

Total Customs Services Improves Operations

Descartes Systems Group, a global leader in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, announced that Total Customs Services is successfully using Descartes' cloud-based Canadian Customs Brokerage solution to improve shipment management, customs filing, security compliance, accounting and customer service operations. Descartes Acquires Datamyne

Descartes Systems Group, a leader in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce via the Global Logistics Network (GLN), announced that it has acquired Datamyne, a provider of cloud-based trade data content solutions for customers to analyze import and export trade activity. Datamyne, primarily operating in the U.S. and South America, collects, cleanses and commercializes logistics trade data from over 50 nations across five continents, including key markets in North America, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the European Union. More than 100 million records are gathered each year from official filings with customs authorities and trade ministries.

Descartes Systems Group, a global company uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, acquired Impatex Freight Software Limited, a provider of electronic customs filing and freight forwarding solutions in the U.K. Impatex brings more than 200 freight forwarder customers to Descartes’ Global Logistic Network, with the majority of these in the U.K. By combining Impatex’s leading U.K. customs and forwarding solutions with Descartes’ global community of logistics participants and logistics management solutions

Africa needs to take advantage of the economic potential of its ports and shipping sector if it is to realise its growth ambitions. Globally, ports are gateways for 80% of merchandise trade by volume and 70% by value. Investment in ports and their related transport infrastructure to advance trade and promote overall economic development and growth is therefore vital – particularly in emerging economies that are currently under-served by modern transportation facilities. However, port investment must be channelled appropriately to ensure financial sustainability and economic growth.

IES provides software-as-a-service solutions that help freight forwarders, non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs), and customs brokers manage their businesses and improve profitability.

Sagarmala: Revolutionizing Logistics Through Port Led Development

Sagarmala, the ambitious program for ‘Port-led development’ in the country is all set to change the logistics sector performance by optimizing India’s logistics modal mix. The flagship program by the Ministry of Shipping  will help in reducing the logistics cost for both domestic and EXIM cargo with optimized infrastructure investment. An overall cost savings of approximately $6 billion per annum by 2025 is estimated from the same. According to a study conducted under the Sagarmala programme, there lies a significant potential for moving raw materials and finished products using coastal shipping and inland waterways which is 60-80% cheaper than road or rail transport.

Pangaea Logistics Acquires Panamax Bulker

Pangaea Logistics Solutions, a global provider of comprehensive maritime logistics solutions, announced that it has signed a memorandum of agreement to acquire the 2006 Imabari-built panamax M/V Madeleine for $14.2M to enhance the company's bulk fleet. This new vessel is set to be renamed and will be fully utilized in the Noranda trade, supporting Pangaea's continuous transportation capabilities to Noranda Alumina and Noranda Bauxite on a long-term contractual basis. The acquisition adds to Pangaea's fleet of panamax, ultramax and supramax ships used for supply chain logistics and shipping.

Elemica to Acquire Optimum Logistics

Elemica has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Stolt-Nielsen’s subsidiary Optimum Logistics Ltd. Under the terms of the agreement, Elemica will acquire the full technology platform and the ongoing business operations of Optimum Logistics. operators, and freight forwarders. Current Optimum Logistics' client, Lyondell Chemical Company vice president for supply chain, Jeffrey L. Hemmer stated, "One of Lyondell's supply chain objectives is 'touchless fulfillment'. Our desire is to establish a virtual enterprise where we collaborate with our business partners to optimize the overall supply chain.

Blu Logistics Brings Rate Management In-House

CargoSphere,  cloud-based global rate management solution and confidential Rate Mesh network for the ocean and air transportation and logistics industries, has announced the completion of Blu Logistics’ integration with CargoSphere’s freight rate management solution. Blu Logistics, a global logistics company offering sea and air freight services, customs brokerage, ground transportation, and warehousing, previously outsourced freight rate and contract management. By changing over to a self-managed system Blu Logistics has significantly reduced the cost of managing this business process area.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has announced that it acquired 20.9% share in PKT Logistics Group (PKT), a leading Malaysian logistics company. PKT provides end-to-end logistics solutions comprising freight forwarding, customs brokerage, contract logistics, haulage, distribution and others, to its customers from diverse market sectors. PKT owns and operates state-of-the-art, environment-friendly warehouses at its 'One Logistics Hub' in Shah Alam, Selangor, offering over 55,000m2 of warehouse space in total.

AVEVA, Capgemini Bolster Global Alliance

AVEVA and Capgemini today announced the signing of a global alliance agreement, which the companies expect will benefit asset-intensive industries such as oil and gas, process, power, marine and transport infrastructure. Building upon the alliance’s capabilities, customers will be able to achieve increased efficiency in construction, revamp and modification projects, as well as to extend the life of, and improve the integrity of operational information in, existing assets. For newbuild projects, AVEVA’s Integrated engineering and design solution enables rapid project setup, highly productive clash-free 3D design and real-time collaboration across different locations and disciplines


K-Line Rolls Out UAE Logistics Firm

Japan-based Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line) and Sharaf Group have established a new firm, K Line Shipping & Logistics (KLSL). Based in Dubai, UAE, KLSL will carry out businesses in the fields of marine transportation, logistics, land transportation, air cargo transportation, warehousing and supply chain solutions. The company will aim to develop new businesses through a network actively, "K" Line and Sharaf Group. K Line Shipping & Logistics (KLSL) is said to be the first affiliate of a Japanese shipping line to operate in the Middle East.

INTERSCHALT Expands Africa, Asia Service Networks

INTERSCHALT maritime systems AG, the provider of maritime software, services and supplier of Voyage Data Recorders (VDR 4G[e] and s-VDR) has expanded its network of service partners in Africa and Asia with the addition of two new distributors in Nigeria and Korea. Multidigital Nigeria Limited, in Lagos, Nigeria, and Vega Communication Co. ltd, in Busan, Korea, take responsibility for the service for VDR G4, MER-(s)-VDR and the annual performance test (APT) in accordance with IMO regulations. “The agreed cooperation with Vega Communication and Multidigital represents an important step in our strategy to expand coverage and to provide with more efficient VDR support around the globe,” explained Robert Gärtner, CEO of INTERSCHALT.
