Container Shipping Line MSC Stops New Iran Bookings
The world's No. 2 container shipping line MSC said on Wednesday it would stop taking new bookings for Iran due to the decision by the United States to re-impose sanctions on Tehran after withdrawing from the international nuclear deal. In a note to clients, privately held MSC said it was "ceasing to provide access to services to and from Iran", adding that they would "conclude this period with the minimum disruption" to their customers' business. "While MSC is not accepting bookings for shipments originating from Iran, or destined to Iran, we will continue to carry certain legally acceptable cargoes during the wind-down period, notably for importation of foodstuffs," Switzerland-based MSC said in its note.

Iran, Kazakhstan to Establish Joint Shipping Company
Iran and Kazakhstan established a joint shipping company to boost trade, said the managing director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL). Mohammad Saeedi told Tasnim News Agency that Iran and Kazakhstan's state-owned railroad companies had established the joint shipping company to connect Central Asia to southern Iran. The IRISL chief said the head office of the firm is in the Iranian port city of Bandar Anzali and a representative office will be also established in the Kazakh port city of Aktau. In April 2016, Iran and Kazakhstan signed an agreement on the establishment of the joint shipping company in the presence of their presidents in Tehran.
Iran VLCCs in Europe on First Post-Sanctions Trip
An Iranian oil tanker has called at a European port for the first time since the lifting of sanctions last January, IRNA news agency reported quoting Sirous Kianersi, managing director of the National Iranian Tankers Company (NITC). Sirous said that the first NITC tanker leased to a major Spanish oil company docked at the Port of Algeciras just recently. More NITC tankers are heading to other European ports, he said, adding two vessels are currently en route to the Netherlands. HDASCO Returns to Le Havre
Starting February 2017, HDASCO Line provides a new commercial offer between HAROPA â Port of Le Havre and many Iranian and Iraqi ports. HDASCO Line (Hafez Darya Arya Shipping Company), also named HDS lines, is the Iranian national shipping company specialized in container transport and a subsidiary of IRISL Group (Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines). This new service offers very competitive transit times: 19 days between Le Havre and Bandar Abbas for example. It will call at the following ports: Bandar Abbas, Asaluyeh, Bandar Iman, Khomeini, Busher and Khorramsharh in Iran and the port of Um Qasr in Iraq. The service will also call ports of: Malta/Khor Fakkam/Jebel Ali/Xingang/Busan/Qingdao/Shanghai/Ningbo/Yantian/Port Kelang.
Iranian Fleet Regains P&I Insurance
A large portion of Iranâs shipping fleet has regained Protection & Indemnity (P&I) insurance from Steamship Mutual, reports Mehr News Agency. Steamship Mutual, said in a statement that a considerable number of Iranian vessels have taken out insurance form the company. IRISL, Hyundai Ink Shipbuilding Contract
Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group, the worldâs largest shipbuilding group, announced on that it signed contracts, financed by Korean financiers to build 14,500 TEU class containerships and 49,000 DWT product/chemical carriers with Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), one of the biggest shipping companies in the middle east. The negotiations for these contracts commenced in December 2015 with mutual good will and a series of constructive meetings in Seoul and Tehran, resulted in conclusion and signing of the contracts on December 9, 2016 in Seoul. In addition to the contracts, HHI plans to discuss and pursue technical cooperation to develop the shipbuilding industry of Iran with a local Iranian shipbuilder at the request of IRISL.
HHI Receives $650 mln Order from Iran for 10 ships
South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd received a $650 million order to build 10 ships for Iran's state-owned shipping company, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported on Saturday, citing a Hyundai Heavy spokesman. The company will build container ships and tankers for Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, with delivery starting in 2018, Yonhap cited the spokesman as saying. The number of each type of ship was not disclosed. The deal was signed on Friday and was the first shipbuilding order by the Iranian firm since the lifting of international sanctions, Yonhap said. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. (HHI), a major shipyard in South Korea, looks set to clinch a deal with Iran to supply 10 ships, says a report in Yonhap. The contract, valued at USD650 million, will see Hyundai supply the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, (IRISL) with four 14,400 TEU container ships and six 50,000 DWT product tankers, the Korea Herald reported. The vessels are expected to be delivered to Iran in the third quarter of 2018. If signed, the contract will be Iran's first deal with a foreign shipbuilder since the lifting of international sanctions on the Middle Eastern nation. Iran is seeking a series of ship-related contracts via the IRISL to handle increasing trade cargo. Yonhap reported that Hyundai officials were cautious about the matter.

India to Revive Irano Hind Shipping Company
India's government owned Shipping Corp. of India Ltd (SCI) plans to revive a 40-year-old joint venture with an Iranian company after a gap of 4 years, reports Bloomberg. The recent removal of anti-Tehran sanctions opened the way for resuscitating Irano Hind Shipping Co., which potentially offers access to Central Asian markets such as Kazakhstan, SCI Chairman B. B. Sinha said. âWe donât want this company to just die out,â he added as cited by Bloomberg. SCI is struggling for respite from an industry downturn. SCI holds 49% stake of the Iranian joint venture firm, Irano Hind Shipping, while Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines controls the rest. The company was founded in 1974 and is based in Tehran, Iran.
IRISL launches Direct Container Service from Incheon to M.E.
THE Incheon Port Authority said a regular container service connecting the port directly to the Middle East has been launched for the first time, backed by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL). According to MANA,The Iranian state-run IRISL will deploy its 5,100-teu vessel Touska in the Middle Eastern route, named HDM Loop, it said in a statement. Two containerships of 5,100 teu capacity each will be put in operation, along with four 6,500 teu container carriers. No other details on the six vessels were provided. The seven vessels will enter Incheon New Port at fortnightly intervals, the IPA said. Incheon New Port was partly opened in June last year.
Iran Strikes $2.4bn Ship Order with Korea
Iran has placed orders worth around $2.4 billion with South Korean shipyards for the construction of ships to carry Iranâs oil and petrochemical products, The Wall Street Journal says. The orders have been placed by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and the oil producer Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC). The Korean companies involved in the case are Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, which is a subsidiary of shipbuilding giant Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, as well as Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company. It has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, a subsidiary of shipbuilding company Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, for as many as 10 petroleum-product tankers and at least six so-called handysize bulk carriers.

According to WSJ report, deals involving Cosco, China Shipping, CMA CGM and Neptune Orient Lines to bring major changes in global shipping alliances. China Cosco Shipping and CMA CGM are hoping to form a new alliance with OOCL, Evergreen Line, and Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, according to sources in the Chinese shipping industry. According to the Alphaliner, CMA CGM and Cosco are leading efforts to create a new vessel-sharing alliance that could include Evergreen Line and OOCL and would shake up three of the four major east-west carrier groupings. CMA CGMâs plans to bring APL into the O3 Alliance once the NOL acquisition is done has put the spotlight on the G6 Alliance.
South Korea Eyes Iran's Shipping Industry
South Korean companies are briskly moving to tap into Iran's fast-growing shipping industry, regarding the Iranian boom as a breakthrough to their prolonged business slump amid the global economic slowdown. According to IRNA, the head of South Korea Maritime Institute Sang Gui Kim voiced his country's readiness for investment in Iran's ports and shipping industry. Sang Gui Kim told reporters on the sidelines of Iran-South Korea Economic Conference in Isfahan. Sang Gui Kim said that Iran boasts of high capabilities in the oil and gas sectors and South Korea can cooperate with Iran on building ships, maintenance and repair of naval fleet and preparing ports for operation. He announced that South Korean cabinet members will visit Tehran in the coming months.

According to Tehran Times, Iranâs shipping lines to Europe had been cut for seven years under the western-led sanctions against the country, but shipping lines to Homburg in Germany, Antwerp in Belgium, and Genoa in Italy are now re-connected thanks to the removal of sanctions, he said. He also said the country plans to launch a shipping line to South American countries, as sanctions against the shipping industry have been lifted.

Iranian state shipping company IRISLâs new general cargo service makes first call at C. During the first call by its new general cargo service, representatives of state shipping company IRISL â Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines â joined staff of the Peter W. Lampke shipping agency and Terminal C. Steinweg in welcoming the Captain and crew of the SEVGI on May 17. The new general cargo service will call monthly at Hamburg as the only port in Germany, transporting conventional general cargo in addition to containers. The multipurpose vessels deployed are equipped with shipboard cranes.
