Contship Italia Sells Gioia Tauro

Contship Italia SpA has sold its 50 percent share in the southern Italian port of Gioia Tauro, which includes the Medcenter Container Terminal (MCT).A press release said: "Contship, a fully controlled subsidiary of Terminal Investment Ltd (TIL) have executed a share purchase agreement concerning the sale of 50% of CSM Italia Gate S.p.A., the company which owns 100% of MCT."MCT is the concessionaire of the container terminal activities in the port of Gioia Tauro and TIL already owned 50% of CSM Italia Gate S.p.A.The parties involved are not disclosing terms.

Warmth Brightens up La Spezia Container Terminal

Despite the grey clouds and rain that fell over the weekend in La Spezia, the YM Warmth making only her second call brought a splash of colour to the terminal when it discharged from Asia a brand new ONE container, showing off the bright new magenta livery. The ship is deployed in THE Alliance’s MD2 service and is one of a series of 14,000 teu ships operated by Yang Ming Line of Taiwan. Effective from April 1, ONE will become the new shipping line formed as a result of the merged container divisions of the big three Japanese lines, namely “K” Line, NYK and MOL.

Contship Italia Group, Italy’s leading maritime container terminal and intermodal operator saw an increase in handled volume of 1.7% and 9.7% increase in transported volumes for 2016. Italian Tanker Officer Receives 8-month Prison Sentence

A senior engineering officer employed by an Italian shipping company was sentenced to eight months in prison for deliberately concealing a vessel’s discharge of oily waste into the sea, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced. Girolamo Curatolo of Custonaci, Sicily, the chief engineer of an oil tanker, the M/T Cielo di Milano, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton to an information charging him with one count of conspiring to violate the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships. Judge Wigenton imposed the sentence November 21 in Newark federal court. According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, the vessel, owned by D’Amico Shipping Italia S.p.A.

Two senior engineering officers employed by an Italian shipping company admitted they deliberately concealed their vessel’s discharge of oily waste into the sea, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced. Girolamo Curatolo, 50, of Custonaci, Sicily, the chief engineer of an oil tanker, the M/T Cielo di Milano, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton in Newark federal court to an information charging him with one count of conspiring to violate the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships. Danilo Maimone, 31, of Furci Siculo, Sicily, the ship’s first assistant engineer, pleaded guilty to an information charging him with conspiring to obstruct justice. The vessel, owned by D’Amico Shipping Italia S.p.A.

EUROGATE can look back on a good financial year, 2015. Despite difficult market conditions the European terminal operators Group increased its net profit by 13.4 percent to EUR 73.5 million (prior year EUR 64.9 million). Container handling at the German EUROGATE locations grew faster than the market. In Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven and Hamburg EUROGATE 2015 hit with 8.2 million standard containers (TEU) 1.5 percent more boxes in order as 2014. The entire North Range ports recorded in the same period dropped by 1.6 percent.

D’Amico Buys Product Tanker from Itself

D’Amico Tankers Limited (Ireland) will acquire the product tanker Cielo di Milano (launched in 2003 by Shina Shipbuilding shipyard (South Korea) from its Italy-based sister company d’Amico Shipping Italia for $14m. “The purchase need arises from the characteristics of the features of this ship suited to a specific route in which it will be immediately engaged,” parent company d’Amico International Shipping said today. The tanker has been fixed on a timecharter, but no specific details have been disclosed.
