JFMS Buys First Supacat Multi-Purpose Vessel 24

James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS) and Supacat today announce the purchase of a Multi-purpose Vessel 24 (SMV 24). The investment in the SMV24 vessel marks JFMS’s continued commitment to provide innovative solutions to clients that require high assurance when operating in the marine environments. The SMV 24 vessel establishes a new benchmark in offshore support craft. With an overall length of 25.7 metres, it is powered by two MAN V12 diesel engines providing a maximum speed of 30 knots and fully loaded range of 675 nautical miles. The vessel is capable of carrying three standard ISO 20ft containers with 30T load, providing extensive and versatile deck space for equipment such as ROVs…

Fendercare to Open Wind Turbine Support Base

On Thursday 19 July 2012, Norfolk-based Fendercare Marine will be hosting a launch event to officially open its Great Yarmouth offshore wind turbine support base. The company’s new facility on the Old Bure Marine site in Cobholm follows on from the success of its first base in Lyness, Orkney and will provide an extensive range of support services & equipment to the expanding offshore wind industry. The Great Yarmouth site, which cost in excess of £1million, includes a large set down and storage area as well as quay side frontage and office facilities.

Henry Takes Helm at James Fisher & Son

James Fisher & Sons plc, the UK marine services provider, this week announced the appointment of Nick Henry (43) as Group Chief Executive with immediate effect following the resignation of Angus Buchanan. Nick Henry joined the company from P&O in February 2003 as Managing Director of James Fisher Tankships. Angus Buchanan has been Group Chief Executive since 2002 and is resigning to enable him to give more time to his family.

A&P Birkenhead Stays Busy

Since reopening in August last year (2002), A&P Birkenhead has made significant strides to becoming a major force in the northern European shiprepair industry. One of the first operations carried out by A&P Group was to put in place efficient and effective quality systems in all the yard’s departments. This drive has been rewarded with the award of the ISO 9002:2000 accreditation from Bureau Veritas Quality Inspectorate (BVQI), which will also carry out six-monthly audits of the yard. Currently A&P Birkenhead is experiencing one of its busiest periods, having completed a 14-day repair programme onboard P&O’s ferry 14,426 grt European Pioneer, she is immediately followed by the 18,653 grt European Envoy, which will be in drydock for 10 days, and the 12,879 grt European Leader - 14 days.

Alstom Wins Repeat Order For Cable Layer

The Marine and Offshore division of Alstom Drives & Controls has been awarded a contract by James Fisher & Sons to provide a replacement power management, alarm and monitoring system for installation on the C/S Nexus cable layer. This is the second such order for Alstom from James Fisher, who granted the company a contract in 1993 for the supply and installation of a DPS901 Simplex Dynamic Positioning System onboard the same vessel. The new power management system utilizes the same hardware as the positioning system, complementing the Alstom equipment already in use of the C/S Nexus.
