Kopernicki joins BMT Group Board

BMT Group Ltd., an international design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced that Jan Kopernicki has joined the Board of Directors as a nonexecutive Director. Jan has extensive experience in the shipping industry, with his career at Shell spanning over 40 years. As Head of Shipping until his retirement in 2011, his global team was responsible for Shell’s portfolio of oil tanker, LPG and LNG vessels and for advising on safety and environmental aspects of shipping.

Lloyd’s Register Reports Strong Performance

In his report on the accounts for the year ended June 30, 2008, David Moorhouse, Chairman of Lloyd’s Register, has announced that Group income rose by 19.6% to $893m (2006/07: $747.5m) with a marginal increase in surplus before tax generally in line with the budgeted target. The budgeted surplus for the year allowed for a significant increase in spending on projects and personnel in support of the Group’s medium and long term business objectives. “Following very strong growth in 2007, I am pleased to be able to report another year of strong underlying financial performance in 2008. While the recent global financial chaos had little effect on our results for the year to June 2008, it is clear that next year will pose a significant challenge to the Group.

Online Bulk Shipping Exchange Will Transform Market

An online shipping exchange being set up by two of the world's biggest oil firms, a leading agrifood multinational and top shipbroker will transform the way traditional shipping markets work, industry experts said. The company, LevelSeas.Com, being set up by oil majors BP Amoco and Shell International Trading and Shipping with food processor and distributor Cargill and shipbroker Clarksons will potentially control 10 percent of bulk commodity movements from day one. Seminar to Focus on Tanker Safety

International Seminar To Be Held in Hong Kong

ITOPF, OCIMF and INTERTANKO will be holding a series of meetings in Hong Kong at the beginning of November 2002. These meetings will bring together senior representatives from the world's oil, tanker shipping and marine insurance industries. The three organizations are therefore taking the opportunity to organize a one-day international seminar on Tanker Safety, Pollution Prevention, Spill Response and Compensation, which will be held the same week as the autumn meetings of INTERTANKO's Executive Committee and Council. International Seminar Attracts a Crowd

Close to 300 delegates joined the International seminar with the theme 'Tanker Safety, Pollution Prevention, Spill Response and Compensation'. Co-hosted by ITOPF, OCIMF and INTERTANKO, the event took place in Hong Kong on 6 November and formed part of a busy week for the three organizations involved, which included the INTERTANKO Executive Committee and Council meetings.
