Electronics Upgraded Aboard Pasha Hawaii's Jean Anne

Pasha Hawaii's pure car/truck carrier (PCTC) Jean Anne has received an electronics upgrade, including the replacement of her navigation system.The update was performed by Mackay Marine in Vancouver, B.C., in just under three weeks, including time for sea trial and crew training. In the wake of Hurricane Lane, Cargo Ops Resume in Hawaii

With the arrival of the container ship Horizon Pacific, Pasha Hawaii resumed operations at Pier 51, the first ship to arrive in Honolulu Harbor after Pasha Hawaii received an all clear to resume cargo operations from the U.S. Coast Guard and Hawaii Department of Transportation following the passage of Hurricane Lane over the Hawaiian Islands.On Wednesday, August 22, the U.S. Coast Guard granted temporary approval for Horizon Pacific to dock at Pier 51, allowing limited discharge of the ship’s cargo.

Pasha Hawaii Taps Keppel Fels to Build LNG-Fueled Boxships

Delivery of First Vessel Planned for Early 2020. Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii today announced that the company has selected Keppel AmFELS in Brownsville, TX, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) for the construction of two new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fueled containerships, with the option to order two additional vessels. Pasha Hawaii is in the process of finalizing contract specifications. The new U.S. Jones Act vessels will carry 2,525 TEUs, including a fully laden capacity of 500 45-foot containers, 400 refrigerated containers, and 300 40-foot dry containers, with a sailing speed of 23.0 knots. Delivery of the first vessel is expected 1Q 2020, with delivery of the second vessel in 3Q 2020.

Pasha Hawaii Set to Order Containerships

Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii said the company narrowed its selection to two U.S. shipyards for the construction of two new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fueled containerships, with the option to order two additional vessels. Contract specifications are expected to be finalized by the end of the month, with the final selection decision anticipated in January 2017. Details for the vessel order outline a shipping capacity of 3,400 TEUs, including 500 45-foot containers and 400 refrigerated containers, and a sailing speed of 23 knots. Delivery of the first vessel is expected mid-2019, with delivery of the second vessel to come in early 2020.

VT Halter Launches Second ConRo for Pasha

MV Marjorie C launched from VT Halter Marine in Pascagoula.

VT Halter Marine, Inc., a subsidiary of Vision Technologies Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), launched MV Marjorie C, a container and roll-on/roll-off car truck carrier (ConRo) at its Pascagoula facilities on August 8. MV Marjorie C is the second vessel built for Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii. MV Marjorie C has the ability to carry 1,500 TEUs, above and under deck, as well as vehicles and over-high and over-wide cargoes on 10 workable decks. The 692-foot long vessel, with a vehicle shipping capacity of 2,750 units, is the largest vessel ever built by VT Halter Marine.

Pasha Hawaii, SeaRiver Maritime Inc., and perhaps ConocoPhillips will soon share the practice of paperless navigation in U.S. domestic trades. Each of these three ship owner/operators is managing a transition to paperless navigation at distinctly significant stages. Pasha Hawaii to Build Second Vessel

Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii announced the signing of a contract with VT Halter Marine, Pascagoula, MS, for the construction of a ship to enter the Hawaii/Mainland trade lane. The ship’s base price is $144m and is estimated to deliver in the fall of 2013. Pasha Hawaii is currently negotiating with several sources for financing. The new ship represents the second vessel to join Pasha Hawaii’s fleet, and will allow the company to provide weekly service between the West Coast and Hawaii. The company also signed an option agreement for the construction of a third vessel with a base price of $137m. This will be the second Roll-On/Roll-Off Car Truck Carrier built by VT Halter for Pasha Hawaii based on a proven design by the Uljanik Shipyard, Croatia.

Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships to four deserving midshipmen from the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at the Containerization and Intermodal Institute's Connie Awards dinner in Newark, N.J. The USMMA cadets Christina Becker, David Irish, Lesley Walz and Gregory Otto were recognized with Crowley scholarships for their strong academic records, leadership capacity and financial need.

Feature: Getting on an Even Keel

Without much fanfare, VT Halter Marine, Gulfport, Miss. is completing a number of very large and capable vessels for both commercial and U. S. Government interests. The company seems on track with the objectives set last year by CEO Boyd E. "Butch" King to add additional projects to their two shipyards located in the Pascagoula, Miss. area. For example, the company will christen the Oscar Dyson October 17. This is a very unique Fisheries Survey Vessel for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a Federal Government agency. The vessel is 208 ft. long with a 49-ft. beam and a relatively deep 28-ft. hull that has a maximum draft of 19 ft.. The Oscar Dyson has a steel, ice-classed hull with an aluminum deckhouse and is anticipated to run at 14 knots.

VT Halter Marine recently launched MV Jean Anne, the first Pure Car Truck Carrier (PCTC) to be built in the U.S. Built by VT Halter Marine at its Pascagoula, Miss., facility, Jean Anne is one of the largest vessels to be launched by a U.S. mid-tier shipyard. "Today marks the successful launching of the first modern PCTC to be built in the U.S. for the Jones Act trade,” said George W. Pasha, IV, President, Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines. The ship is owned and operated by Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines, a joint venture between The Pasha Group, a Corte Madera, Calif.-based leading global transportation and logistics provider, and Strong Vessel Operators LLC, a Stamford, Conn.-based ship owner and operator. VT Halter Marine To Construct Carrier For Pasha Hawaii

VT Halter Marine Inc., has signed a contract with Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines, valued at approximately $47 million, to complete the construction of their car carrier, Jean Anne. VT Halter Marine expects to complete and deliver the vessel in the fourth quarter of 2004. The vessel is the first Pure Car Truck Carrier (PCTC) to be built in the United States. Constructed for the Jones Act trade, it will operate between U.S. Hawaii. Measuring 579 ft. overall, with a beam of 102 ft. Ft., the 13,000 deadweight ton PCTC has the capacity to transport more than 4,000 automobiles. Propulsion will be provided by a single propeller driven by a slow-speed diesel engine. Boyd E. "Butch" King is a man on a mission. The new CEO of VT Halter Marine, Inc. is rebuilding the shipbuilding company one contract at a time. "Our goal is to reestablish VT Halter Marine's world-wide reputation as a builder of midsize commercial and military vessels," King said from his office in Gulfport, Miss. King is a retired Brigadier General with a 35-year career in the U.S. Army culminating in his appointment as Director of Transportation, Energy and Troop Support on the Army staff.
