DP World, China Signs Agreement to Boost International Trade

An agreement to jointly construct a new ‘Traders Market’ at DP World’s flagship Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone in Dubai on a total build up area of three million square metres has been signed between the global trade enabler and the Zhejiang China Commodities City Group, providing further impetus to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.DP World will be building the ‘Traders Market’ within the Jebel Ali Free Zone Area located in Jafza South next to the Dubai Expo 2020 site.The market will include clusters of traders from all over the world, offering a wide range of products at one site.

Abu Dhabi Ports Signs a 30-year Deal with MSC to Build Terminal

DP World Sets Its Sights on Hyperloop Cargo Shipping

Dubai-based port operator DP World has partnered with Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Hyperloop One to create a new venture that aims to provide hyperloop-enabled cargo systems.DP World and the U.S.-based Virgin Hyperloop One introduced their vision for “the future of on-demand freight transportation” at an event on April 29 at the historic vessel Queen Elizabeth 2.The joint venture, called DP World Cargospeed, will set out to be the world’s first to ship cargo with hyperloop technology.

The Maersk liner vessel Maersk Honam, which was hit by a serious fire on 6 March, will reach anchorage outside the Jebel Ali Port (UAE) on Tuesday 24 April 2018. The fire broke out around 900 nautical miles southeast of Salalah, Oman, and remains under control. Firefighting activities were initiated by the Indian Coast Guard until vessels with special firefighting capabilities arrived at the scene. Salvage operations are led by Smit Salvage and Ardent – two best-in-class companies within maritime salvage.

Djibouti's container port will remain in state hands as the government seeks investment, a senior official said on Wednesday in comments likely to reassure Washington where lawmakers say they fear it could be ceded to China. DP World Moves Ahead with Suez Canal Industrial Zone

Dubai-based ports operator DP World has inked an agreement with the Suez Canal Authority and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) to launch the first phase of an integrated industrial and residential zone in Sokhna. Major Qatari shipping conglomerate Qatar Navigation (Milaha) is launching a direct service between Qatar and Karachi in Pakistan, the company said on Sunday, as it seeks to counter economic sanctions against Doha by other Arab States. Milaha Launches Kuwait Service amid Diplomatic Crisis

Qatar Navigation (Milaha) , a top Doha-based shipping and logistics group, said on Wednesday it had launched a new container service to Kuwait amid a diplomatic crisis that has seen it lose access to regional trans-shipment hub, Dubai. Milaha will operate the weekly, direct service between Kuwait and Qatar using a vessel capable of handling the equivalent of 515 20-foot containers, the company said in a statement. Milaha said the service between Qatar's Hamad Port and Shuwaikh Port in Kuwait would have a transit time of one day and be ideal for transporting perishable products and food.

Milaha Plans Base in Oman after Trade Hit by Diplomatic Rift

Qatar Navigation (Milaha), a top Doha-based shipping and logistics group, said it was shifting its regional trans-shipment hub from Dubai to the Omani port of Sohar after a diplomatic crisis in the region disrupted Qatar's trade. Milaha is setting up a warehousing and logistics operation at Sohar, on Oman's northern coast, and is exploring other opportunities to expand in that country, the company said on Monday. The plan suggests Qatar is making long-term preparations to cope with sanctions imposed by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, which cut diplomatic and transport ties on June 5, accusing Doha of backing terrorism.

DP World Volumes rise

DP World Limited handled 63.7 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its global portfolio of container terminals in the full year of 2016, with gross container volumes growing by 3.2% year-on-year on a reported basis, and 2.2% on a like-for-like  basis, which compares favourably to the industry estimated growth of 1.3% for 2016 . In the fourth quarter, gross reported volumes grew by 6.0% year-on-year driven by strong growth in Asia Pacific and Europe. UAE handled 3.7 million TEU in 4Q2016 down marginally by 0.7% year-on-year.

Kalmar Bags DP World's Container Handlers Order

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has been awarded an order to supply DP World's flagship terminal, Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, with the new generation empty container handlers. The order for 13 units has been booked into Cargotec's 2016 fourth quarter order intake. The deliveries will begin in the second quarter of 2017 and they are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017. Commenting on the order, Suresh Ananthanarayan, Kalmar's Key Account Manager for DP World, said: "This is the first order of Kalmar's new range of empty container handlers for the Middle East & Africa region.

DP World London Gateway Adds New Shipping Service

DP World London Gateway Port has announced a new shipping service to Australia, the Mediterranean and other key markets. CMA-CGM’s NEMO (North European Mediterranean Oceania) and Hapag Lloyd’s EAX (Europe, Australia Express) combined service will begin calling at DP World London Gateway Port in early January 2017, with CMA CGM’s Rossini as the first to call on the service. The new business will mean DP World London Gateway is handling all of the UK’s direct services to Australia.

Dubai ports operator DP World is  working with customers to minimise disruption following the collapse of Hanjin Shipping, reports National. About ten ships operated by the Korean company are currently in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port according to Hanjin data. Two other ships have arrived in Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port Container Terminal. "While we don’t publish data on client receivables, following Hanjin Shipping’s decision to file for court protection, we have been working with our customers and partners to minimise impact on world trade," The National quoted a DP World spokesman as saying.

DP World to Delay Jebel Ali Port Expansion

Company blames softer market conditions; plan to add 1.5 mln TEU to Terminal 3 delayed into 2017. DP World, one of the world's largest port operators, is delaying the expansion of Dubai's Jebel Ali port, its main facility, because of softer market conditions, the company said on Thursday. A plan to add 1.5 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEU) of annual capacity to Terminal 3 at Jebel Ali will be delayed into 2017, while expansion of Terminal 4 will also be slowed, DP World said without giving details.
