The 2017 SHIPPINGInsight Award was presented to Maersk Tankers and ShipNet at the 6th Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition in Stamford, Conn. The award is presented annually to honor a shipping company and its technology partners for the successful implementation of an innovative technology or initiative that advanced the state of the art in fleet optimization. The award winners each received a binnacled captain’s clock in a polished wooden case as well as framed certificates.

SHIPPINGInsight announced the agenda and identified keynote speakers for the fifth Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition. The annual event will take place October 18-19, 2016, at the Stamford Marriott Hotel and Spa in Stamford, Conn. Capt. Michael Wilson, president & COO of Laurin Maritime (America), will serve as conference chairman. John D. (Jack) Noonan, COO of Chembulk Tankers, and Capt. Big Data: Big Value or Big Risk?

We wish we had a dollar for every time we heard or read the words Big Data at the Nor-Shipping exhibition last month. We might even have collected enough cash to buy a round of expensive Norwegian beers for the gang at the Fridtjof bar. Seriously, Big Data is one of the most talked-about subjects at maritime industry gatherings. At Nor-Shipping there were no fewer than half a dozen panels and conference sessions focusing on the role of Big Data and analytics in commercial shipping.

More than 150 shipping industry professionals from around the world gathered this month in Stamford, Conn., for SHIPPINGInsight 2014 – a technical and ship operations forum for the maritime industry in North America. The annual SHIPPINGInsight event, held Sept. 30 – Oct. 2, encompassed three days of presentations, discussions, debates and networking.
