Indian PM Narendra Modi Lays Foundation Stone For JNPT Fourth Countainer Terminal

India's biggest container traffic handler Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) has achieved yet another milestone in its ambitious journey to become a world class maritime hub when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the fourth container terminal, proposed to be developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 7915 Crores (USD 1.23 bln) on DBFOT basis. Modi arrived at the JNPT Helipad- accompanied by the Maharashtra Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways  Nitin Gadkari, the state Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis and other dignitaries. Modi witnessed a six minute Video presentation on JNPT and Fourth Container Terminal (FCT). Modi was briefed by Gadkari that the work has been awarded to M/s Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Pvt. Ltd.

Mumbai Harbour Channel and JN Port Channel to Expand

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, India chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Wednesday approved fresh estimates of the project Deepening and Widening of Mumbai Harbour Channel and JN Port Channel (Phase-II). The cost of the project will be Rs 2029 crore excluding the Service Tax. The entire project cost will be funded through internal resources of JN Port Trust (JNPT) with market borrowing, if necessary. The project includes the existing channel to be widened from presently 370 m to 450 m for straight reach, channel to be extended from existing 33.5 Kms to 35.5 Kms. The draft of the channel will be increased from existing 14 m draft to 15 m draft. The estimated quantity to be dredged to the tune of 35.03 million cu.mtr. including 1.73 million cu.mtr. rock dredging.

JNPCT Achieves Record Performance

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT) handled 14,29,936 TEUS of cargo till March 7 as compared to 14,29,277 TEUs, registering a growth of 7.6 per cent. "JNPCT, one of the four terminals at JNPort which is directly managed by Port authority, handled 14,29,936 TEUS (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit) till March 7, surpassing last year record of 14,29,277 TEUs and registering 7.6 per cent YoY growth in cargo throughput," the Ministry of Shipping said in a statement. In a major attempt to rise above conventional standards and achieve high benchmarks, the Port owned container terminal has taken series of measures for improving productivity parameters leading to record achievement.

JNPT to Support Direct Port Delivery Facility

Indian government is exhorting importers to use the Direct Port Delivery (DPD) facility, an initiative aimed at reducing dwell time and transaction costs, reported PTI. According to Ministry of Shipping, the Direct Port Delivery (DPD) is a major initiative of the Centre under programmes like Make in India and Ease of Doing Business and very important drive for reduction of dwell time and transaction cost. In a workshop on “Direct Port Delivery at Indian Ports-Challenges & Opportunities”, organized by Bureau of Research on Industry & Economic Fundamentals (BRIEF) in New Delhi, Neeraj Bansal, Dy.Chairman, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) gave presentation on “ Initiatives and roadmap towards Direct Port Delivery at JNPT”. Bansal highlighted that DPD is a major initiative of Govt.

JNPT Liquid Cargo Terminal Handles Highest Crude Oil

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s number one container port, created a major record on November 16, 2016, by loading 80,640 MT of ONGC crude oil on a large vessel ‘MT Desh Bhakta’, which was berthed at LB-01 of BPCL-run Liquid Cargo Terminal. This is the highest quantity of crude oil loaded on a vessel at JNPT which has surpassed the previous highest of 80,489 MT loaded on Tanker vessel ‘MT Ratna Urvi’ in June 2012. ONGC’s crude oil tanker MT Desh Bhakta, which measures LoA of 244.2 meters, arrived at JN Port on November 14, 2016 for loading of crude oil from Mumbai High region to sail ahead for MRPL refinery at New Mangalore through coastal movement with a sailing draught of 12.6 meters.

Iranian Delegation visits JNPT

An Iranian delegation headed by Dr. Abbas Akhoundi, Hon. Minister of Road and Urban Development visited JN Port (Jawaharlal Nehru Port) to see the Port facilities and know about the future development plans. Dr. Akhoundi and his delegation were received by  Shri Anil Diggikar, Chairman, JNPT, Shri Neeraj Bansal,  Dy.Chairman, JNPT and senior Port officials. The delegation was taken around the Port operational area to show the Port infrastructure and facilities. In the meeting the delegation was briefed about the Port traffic performance, financial performance and the various  ‘Ease of Doing Business Initiatives’  implemented for the benefit of  trade.

Foundation Stone Laid for New PSA CT in Mumbai

Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Private Limited (BMCT), a wholly-owned subsidiary of PSA Bharat Investments Pte Ltd (which is a subsidiary of PSA International) celebrated the laying of the foundation stone today to mark an important chapter in the development of the fourth container terminal in Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JN Port), India. Anil Diggikar named Chairman, JNPT

The Shipping Ministry, Government of India has named Anil Udhavrao Diggikar, a Maharashtra cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1990 batch, as the new chairman of the state-owned Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). AT present Mr Diggikar is the vice chairman and managing director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corp. Ltd. The port will be having a Chairman after a long gap as the port did not have a fulltime chairman even since N.N. Kumar demitted office in March this year. JN port is the largest container port in India having handled 4.467 million TEUs for the year ended 31st March 2015 the highest since it was opened in 1989. Overall, the port handled 63.80 million tonnes of cargo in 2014-15, up 2.36% compared with 62.33 million tonnes a year ago.

JNPort Takes Steps to Regularise Traffic - GTI Shutdown

As Gateway Terminals India (GTI) (one of the private terminal at JNPort, a JV between APM Terminals (APMT) and state-owned rail operator Container Corporation of India) is facing shutdown in operations due to the strike of contractor's employees engaged by Cargotek handling yard crane operations demanding their absorption in GTI pay roll, JNPort has made an all-out effort to regularise the traffic in and around the port. Some of the vessels meant for APMT terminal is being handled at neighbouring terminal of NSICT and NSIGT and JNPCT is handling the reefer export cargoes of GTI. In order to handle these additional vessels over and above their own window vessels, there was lot of pressure on the gates of these terminals and the queue of export Boxes had become long.

JNPT Installs ECIL's Radiological Detection Equipment

P.Sudhakar, Chairman & Managing Director, Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) handed over a critical homeland security system - Radiological Detection Equipment (RDE) to Neeraj Bansal, Chairman In charge, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), Mumbai in presence of Dr. R.K.Sinha, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy at an impressive function at JNPort today. JNPort is the largest container port in India handling the major container traffic of the country. JNPort has further equipped itself in handling all kinds of cargo as per international safety standards by installing this Radiological Detection Equipment (RDE). This security system would neither be a hindrance to the moving cargo nor will add another security clearance layer.

JNPT Achieves Higher Productivity in 2014

At a meeting with the Port customers and other stake holders/ agencies, the Chairman, JNPT, N.N.Kumar, announced the  performance  achieved by JN Port in calendar year 2014 totalled 64.42 million tonnes. This year container handling was 4.47 million TEU’s registering the growth of 8.48%. The share of JNPCT( the Port owned and operated container terminal ) is 1.32 million TEU’s and the other  container terminals,  i.e, GTICT and NSICT handled 1.99 million TEU’s   and  1.16 million TEUs, respectively. Addressing the gathering,  the Chairman elaborated on the achievements of the  year 2014, particularly ever record container traffic handled in a year since inception of the Port. He also explained the status of the projects of capacity addition at JNPort.

Launch of “SwachhBharat Abhiyan” in JNPT

In response to the Nation’s call by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, followed by the communication from the Ministry of Shipping, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (INPT) has launched the “Swachh BharatAbhiyan” (MyCleanIndia – Of Dirt and Cleanliness) at the Port. The Abhiyan was formally inaugurated by JNPT Chairman, Mr. N.N.Kumar, IRS in the presence of the Deputy Chairman, Mr. Neeraj Bansal,IRS; the Chief Vigilance Officer, Mr Sushovan Banerjee, IPS;the Heads of Departments and other officials of JNPT. Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman stressed the need to make cleanliness as an integral part of our life and said that it is JNPT’s responsibility to sensitize the community in the vicinity of the Port to become a part of this noble mission.

PM to Lay Foundation of JNPT's SEZ on 16th August

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation of a Port- Based Multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) at Sheva, Navi Mumbai on Saturday, August 16, 2014. The proposed industrial infrastructure in 277 hectares with a total Public and Private investment of INR 4,000 Crore is planned as a Self-Sustainable Integrated Development Project having a potential of generating 1.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs. The ambitious SEZ to be developed through JNPT-SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) under the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) mode will be completed in three years.

PSA Awarded Concession to Develop and Operate 4th Container Terminal in JNPT

Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Private Limited (BMCT), a wholly-owned subsidiary of PSA Bharat Investments Pte Ltd (which is a subsidiary of PSA International), signed the concession with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) on 6 May 2014 to develop the JN Port’s fourth container terminal on a design, build, operate, finance and transfer basis in Mumbai for a period of 30 years. Located at India’s largest and premier container gateway port, BMCT will have berths with a depth of 16.5 metres, the deepest in JN Port. BMCT will be equipped with the latest technology and equipment to serve important industrial and manufacturing centres and cities in India’s largest hinterland. BMCT is well-connected by major highways and rail networks to key markets in India, a fast-growing economy.

The differential in expected container volume growth rates between the developed and emerging markets has led operators to focus attention on emerging market opportunities and seek to rebalance their portfolios. One of the key perceived negatives for ICTSI in the past has been the geopolitical risks associated in some of its investments in economies such as Pakistan, Syria and more recently in Iraq that can provide robust returns.
