Harvey Gulf Announces Plans for 3 New LNG-Powered Boats

Initial deal worth $165 million; $300 million for 6 additional newbuilds and another $500 million for acquisitions also approved. Harvey Gulf International Marine announced Saturday that it will sign a deal for three LNG vessels to be built by Signal Shipbuilding. At a Harvey Gulf board meeting held on Satruday afternoon, the Louisiana-based operator's management team approved the $165 million deal, said Harvey Gulf International Marine Chairman & CEO, Shane J. Raytheon Robotics Helps Shipyards Lighten the Load

Dr. Fraser Smith of Raytheon is the President of Raytheon Sarcos, part of Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems business. He’s also the chief proponent of a new technology that could revolutionize how shipyards move, store and retrieve bulky, awkward and heavy materials. Raytheon is actively marketing the robotic device now and looking to find follow-on funding to make the product commercially viable. Based on their early findings and performance, they are well on their way to doing just that.

Brunswick’s All New 1100 IMPACT D-Collar

At a trade event held in Baltimore, MD, Brunswick unveiled its most exciting hull to date. First on board to test drive the new vessel was Marine News Editor Joe Keefe. An exhilarating 35 minute cruise revealed all of the exciting features the new vessel had to offer – whether barreling ahead at 63 KT in open waters or smartly backing down at the berth with the help of Brunswick’s JPO joy stick controls. MARAD helps to fund Mobile Ballast Water Testing Facility. The Maritime Administration, along with the Maritime Environmental Resource Center and Maryland Port Administration, has dedicated a new facility to study the effectiveness of technology to treat invasive species in ballast water. The Mobile Test Platform is a retrofitted barge that will allow ballast water treatment systems to be evaluated in a natural setting at different locations in the Chesapeake Bay region.
