Partners Aim to Develop Low Pressure Solutions for CO2 Shipping

Energy companies Equinor, Shell, TotalEnergies, Gassco and classification society DNV have commenced a new joint industry project (JIP) to develop low-pressure solutions for the transportation of CO2 by ships. The CETO (CO2 Efficient Transport via Ocean) JIP will carry out the technology qualification of a low-pressure ship design and identify solutions to scale CO2 transportation volume, while reducing the associated risks, to support the development of opportunities in CCS. CETO is funded by the project partners and GASSNOVA through the CLIMIT program and is expected to be completed in 2023.

DNV GL Grants AIP for DSME Ethylene Carrier Cargo Tank

At Gastech trade fair in Houston, DNV GL presented South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME) with Approval in Principle (AIPs) certificates for two new 98,000 cubic meter (cbm) ethylene carrier cargo tank designs. KHI Wins AiP from DNV GL for LFPP

The international accredited registrar and classification society DNV GL has awarded the Japanese multinational corporation Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) an Approval in Principle (AIP) for their LNG floating power plant (LFPP).The classification body said in a press release that the LFPP is a decentralized energy generation solution that enables locations to tap into natural gas as part of their power mix.The LFPP concept is designed for installation in areas where energy demand is rapidly increasing, but onshore infrastructure is not feasible or commercially viable. Instead, the LNG would be offloaded from a carrier, stored onboard in two cylindrical (IMO type C) tanks, and then regasified for power generation and exported to the onshore grid.

ShipInox: AiP on Small LNG Vessel Design

DNV GL presented ShipInox with an Approval in Principle (AiP) for its new small-scale LNG carrier/bunker vessel design, reportedly the first ever class-approved design based on an offshore supply vessel (OSV). DNV GL Grants AiP for Kawasaki's New MOSS Tank

DNV GL has awarded Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd (KHI) an Approval in Principle (AiP) for its newly developed non-spherical (MOSS) tank. The new tank is a IMO Independent Type B LNG tank that has been developed for use in 180,000 m3 LNG carriers designed to pass through the new Panama Canal. KHI said that the new tank has the same reliability as a spherical (MOSS) tank, but has an increased cargo capacity of 15 per cent. It can also be used with the “Kawasaki Panel System”, an advanced heat insulation system developed by KHI.

DNV GL AiP for Vard's LNG Bunker Vessel Design

DNV GL has awarded Vard Engineering Brevik AS with an Approval in Principle (AiP) for their new 6,500 m3 bunker vessel design. The design has been evaluated for compliance with the DNV GL Gas Bunker rules, the applicable Gas Carrier rules as well as the IGC Code's 2016 edition. VARD's LNG Tank gets DNV GL Approval

VARD’s new LNG tank design has been granted General Approval for Ship Application (GASA) by DNV GL. The new LNG-type B-tank design is based on vertical cylindrical-shape geometry and has a patented support design. The tank is the result of a joint industry project (JIP) initiated by VARD and DNV GL in April 2015. Initially, a number of design and documentation challenges were identified, but throughout the project, the two companies were able to collaborate closely to agree on feasible solutions. After numerous iterations, extensive documentation of details and the use of finite element strength calculations to prove the design's capability, DNV GL granted the design a GASA Statement.
