XL Appoints Regional Vice President in New York

XL Group added marine underwriting expertise with the addition of John E. Ellis as Regional Vice President in its North America Marine business in New York. In his new role at XL Group, John will be responsible for managing and building XL Group’s Marine Cargo, Primary and Excess Marine Liability, Inland Marine, and Blue Water and Brown Water Hull business throughout the Northeast. John joins XL Group from International Marine Underwriters/One Beacon where he held the position of regional vice president and was responsible for building a profitable book of business in the Atlantic Region. Insurance Issues Facing Tanker Industry

The session, entitled Marine Insurance – the impact of September 11, was chaired by Luke Readman from the UK P&I Club. The team of speakers comprised John Fawcett-Ellis, INTERTANKO, together with Hedley French and John Garthwaite from Jardine Lloyd Thompson Risk Solutions. John Fawcett-Ellis began the session with a presentation on the insurance related activities of INTERTANKO and in particular post September 11. An overview was given of the work of the Insurance Committee. It was emphasized that the committee members were actively engaged in insurance matters on a day-to-day basis. This knowledge of the insurance markets meant that they spoke the same language as those engaged in the insurance industry…

INTERTANKO Reorganizes Regional Responsibilities

INTERTANKO has announced the following personnel changes affecting its Asian Representative Office and Latin American Panel. The Association’s Asian office, located in Singapore, was set up in 1999 and has been managed to date by Ms Minerva Alfonso. Ms Alfonso will be relinquishing her post as Asian Regional Manger in August to commence maternity leave. John Fawcett-Ellis has been appointed as the new Regional Manager for Asia–Pacific, taking over responsibility for INTERTANKO members in the region. Fawcett-Ellis will continue to act as the Association’s Legal Counsel with specific responsibility for chartering and documentary matters. In his new position he will also act as secretary to INTERTANKO’s Asian Panel.

INTERTANKO sets up Latin American Panel

INTERTANKO, the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners which represents some 240 members in 54 countries operating over 2,100 tankers has set up a Latin American Panel of members. Petrobras Transporte - Transpetro. the Association. (PMI Trading) and Elizio Araujo Neto (Transpetro). between the Association and its members in this region. communication with existing members. American Panel, Asian Panel and Hellenic Forum of INTERTANKO members. INTERTANKO's Managing Director comments: "The creation of the Latin American Panel and the strong support shown for it by the INTERTANKO membership is an acknowledgement of the growing importance of oil transportation in the region.
