Metal Shark Inks Deal to Build Fire Island Ferries to EBDG Design

Metal Shark won a contract to build a new vehicle ferry for Fire Island Ferries, a vessel designed by Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG).Construction of the new Fire Island Maid recently commenced at Metal Shark’s Bayou La Batre, Alabama shipyard, and the 70 x 23-ft.vessel features a steel hull and aluminum superstructure. Ferry Conference: Technology Drives Vessel Advancements

On June 2-3, 2016,  the Ferry Safety and Technology Conference will be held in downtown Manhattan. Throughout the world, the quickening pace of technological advances is impacting all sectors of the maritime business; ferries are no exception. The conference, now in its second year, will feature practical and affordable technologies already deployed in passenger transportation, or soon to be. Topics to be discussed will include Vessel Design; Landings – with a focus on their resiliency and Maritime Weather – with fresh information on timely fine scale marine weather detection. Information management and Communication applications will be center stage.

CSX Expands Management Team for Pusan Container Project

CSX World Terminals LLC (CSXWT) announced the appointment of two key management positions for its Pusan, South Korea, container terminal development project. Gerard van den Heuvel has been appointed as director-operations and John M. Elliott has been hired as commercial director. Van den Heuvel began his new assignment in May 2004, and Elliott will begin his new role on July 19, 2004. Both will report to Rob Walker, CSXWT vice president-South Korea. In his new position, van den Heuvel will be responsible for development of the Pusan terminal and terminal operations once construction is complete. Van den Heuvel has more than 15 years of experience in terminal and vessel operations management.
