DNV GL Develops Offshore Safety Guidance for Greek Regulator

DNV GL said it has completed a workscope with the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), under funding provided by the EU, to develop guidance for the Greek offshore safety competent authority, Hellenic Ηydrocarbons Resources Management (HHRM), under Greek law 4409/2016 which enacts EU directive (2013/30/EE) on offshore safety. The offshore major hazards guidance was presented to several international and domestic companies and the ministry of environment and energy in Athens, on March 1, 2018. HHRM, as the competent authority, is responsible for the regulation of offshore hydrocarbon operations with regards to major hazards and is responsible for developing the relevant legislative framework for Greece.

Maritime Strategy Port Call at University of Denver

The diplomats of tomorrow met with Deputy Chief of Naval Operations Vice Adm. John Morgan and naval strategist Capt. Dan Cloyd at the , March 26 to discuss the new joint-service Maritime Strategy and what it means to the nation's future. Over 50 students and faculty from the university's Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) gathered in an intimate forum to listen to Morgan as he described the way ahead for national and global security, shared Sea Service responsibility for peace and prosperity and layered defense of the American homeland. He also outlined goals for the prevention of war and planning for humanitarian relief as priorities of today's Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Morgan is the deputy chief of naval operations for information, plans and strategy.

University Students, Senior Military Leaders Exchange Ideas

U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps officers visited Oregon State University (OSU) on Feb. 20 to discuss the nation's new maritime strategy with students and faculty during a "Conversations with the Country" stop. OSU was chosen as one of the discussion locations because of its proximity to Portland, ranked fifth in export tonnage on the West Coast. Capt. The previous Maritime Strategy was written 25 years ago, before many of the students attending the OSU lecture were born.
