Gallagher Named President of Gulf Marine Repair
The Board of Directors of Hendry Marine Industries, Inc. announced the appointment of Mr. John P. Gallagher as President of Gulf Marine Repair effective January 29, 2019. Gallagher, a graduate of The Webb Institute of Naval Architecture, is a seasoned maritime executive with over 30 years of leadership experience inoperations management, naval engineering, ship construction and ship repair. Highlights of Mr. Gallagher’s career include VP Operations, Derecktor Shipyard; Chief Executive, BMT International, Inc.; and President, Northeast Ship Repair.
Finalists of Mersey Maritime Industry Awards Announced
The finalists of the 2017 Mersey Maritime Industry Awards (MMIAs) have been announced. The winners will be revealed at a prestigious black tie dinner that will have a Ministerial presence and promises to bring together the best of the maritime industry right across the Maritime, Logistics and Energy spectrum in the region. The MMIAs are organised by sector representative body Mersey Maritime and the Awards recognise the excellence and diversity that exists across all sectors of the maritime industry in the North West. Chris Shirling-Rooke, Chief Executive, Mersey Maritime, said: “The number and quality of entries for the 2017 MMIAs has risen for the third consecutive year, which will make for an exciting awards evening when the winners are announced on 9th March.
Shipyard files Chapter 11, but Derecktor Maintains its Course to Grow
Derecktor Shipyards Conn., LLC last month filed a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. The company said the filing was the result of a single contract dispute, and that it is still busy and fully staffed, working on several newbuild projects, including a contract to build a massive 85.6-m motor yacht, a 45-m catamaran and a pair of tugboats for Boston Towing and Transport. In addition, the Derecktor yard in Connecticut has a building slot open starting September 2008, as well as a build slot available for delivery at the end of 2011/beginning of 2012. "The company has been engaged in lengthy negotiations to resolve issues relating to one of its contracts," said Paul Derecktor, president.
Maryland Coast Guard Station Wins Award
The crew of Coast Guard Station Oxford, Md., recieved the Sumner I. Kimball Award for superior readiness Tuesday. Coast Guard Captains Neil Buschman, Fifth District chief of staff, and Brian D. Kelley, commander of Sector Baltimore, presided over the ceremony. The Sumner I. Kimball Award recognizes excellence in crew proficiency, boat and personal protective equipment condition and compliance with established training documentation requirements, and is awarded to the top 10 percent of units throughout the Coast Guard. The Kimball Award selection is the result of many hours of hard work and attention to detail by the crew. "It's an honor for the crew of a small Coast Guard station to receive such a difficult-to-achieve national award.
