Northrop Grumman Debuts Flat-Screen Desktop Marine Radars

Northrop Grumman Corporation introduced new models of desktop marine navigation radars with state-of-the-art, high-resolution, color LCD flat-screen displays. With the introduction of the new flat-screen 180 and 250 models, the entire line of BridgeMaster E radars has now been switched over from CRT to LCD displays, according to John Robinson, strategic business unit director for radars at the company’s Sperry Marine business unit. “We have totally discontinued the use of CRTs in our new BridgeMaster E radar range," said Robinson. "We will, however, continue to support our large base of installed base of CRT radars currently in service for at least the next 10 years,” he said.

Decca BridgeMaster E Accepted for AIS Display

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit announced that its Decca BridgeMaster E marine radars have been type accepted by QinetiQ for display of Automatic Identification System (AIS) data in accordance with the technical provisions of the International Maritime Organization Circular SN/Circ. 217. "The BridgeMaster E is one of the first marine radars to be type accepted for display of AIS data," said John Robinson, who heads Sperry Marine's radar business group. "The ability to display AIS data on the radar screen significantly enhances situational awareness for the navigator by providing real-time information on target ships’ position movements and identity," said Robinson.
